QUOTE After a busy afternoon Pedro de la Rosa had a disappointing non-finish in the Japanese GP. His problems started when a crank sensor failure on his race car forced him to take the spare, and he was not as happy with it as he had been with his intended mount. His race revolved around a bold strategy that involved a first stop that was very late – in fact the latest of anybody in the field. It looked like he might be planning a single stop, but in fact he was on two, along with the majority of the field. However an oil pump problem led to his retirement and meant that he never got a chance to see how it would have unfolded. Adam Cooper spoke to him after the race. Q: What was the story with the strategy? “We were doing two stops, but the first was a very late one, and the next two were supposed to be quick ones. Eddie did a two-stop like that in Silverstone, and it worked. Starting where we started, we had to try things. But I started with my T-car, because we had a problem with the electronics just before the laps to the grid. So I jumped in the T-car, and to be honest it was not very good.” Q: You were obviously heavy on fuel, so that didn’t help… “I think we were too heavy. When you’re too heavy, you damage the tyres. I went straight on at the chicane two or three times, and on the second lap I think Frentzen hit me a little bit in the chicane, so I have to check what happened to the car. Maybe he damaged something. Nevertheless it was a bad weekend for us, because we’ve lost seventh position in the constructors’.” Q: What went wrong in the end? “I ran out of fuel coming into the pits, which didn’t help either, as I lost more time there. But then the oil pressure dropped – we had an oil leak, so we lost all our oil, and the engine was going to go bang any second.” Q: How close were you to the Raikkonen accident? “When I got there it was white smoke, and to be honest I didn’t know where to go really. After that, it was OK. But I was lucky with the timing. I’ve seen it on TV, and everyone was very lucky.” Q: So it’s holiday time now? “Yes. In a couple of weeks I’m getting married, and then resting one month, before we come back in December for training. We need to take a break, really. The whole team is tired, and I think it’s important to start fresh.” QUOTE Copyright www.jaguar-racing.com Felicidades Pedro. (Aunque no sé si darle el pésame, jejeje.) P.S.
