Massa maintains form in Monza test

Felipe Massa picked up where he left off after his victory in the European Grand Prix at Valencia as the Ferrari driver set the pace on the first day of testing at Monza.

The Brazilian began work developing the Scuderia's aero package for the Italian Grand Prix, concentrating on set-up.

Massa completed three long runs, which he declared himself satisfied with - ending the day with a lap time of 1:23.428.

McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen, in low-downforce trim, was just over a hundredth slower, as was the Williams of Nico Rosberg - boding well for a competitive race at Monza next month.

Sebastian Vettel continued his and Scuderia Toro Rosso's impressive form with the fourth fastest time of the day ahead of Rubens Barrichello's improving Honda in fifth.

Mark Webber was sixth fastest for Red Bull.

Nick Heidfeld embarked on the first of two days at the wheel of his BMW F1.08, testing mechanical set-ups for Spa and Monza as well as suspension, aero and gearbox ratios.

Vitantanio Liuzzi returned to the cockpit of the Force India car, completing 99 laps and lapping less than second off Massa's pace to go eighth.

Jarno Trulli was ninth for Toyota while Nelson Piquet completed the runners in tenth.

Gracias por los informes Yossi...

Mirando las fotos, me he fijado que el HONDA va con mucha ala!!!! mucho más de la que creo está fuera de lo habitual en Monza... me ha sorprendido verlos con las "gaviota" esa encima del morro, al igual que el alerón (orejas, ala delta o "horrible elemento") que también utliliza McLaren.

Si nos fijamos en BMW... el cual anda descargado de ala... podemos observar como incluso han prescindido del "trabajado" morro que utilizan normalmente que obviamente tiene elementos de carga aerodinámica... y que en en Monza lo han substituido por el Morro "tradicional" y liso de los últimos años.

Tambien esperaba que los equipos se deshicieran de los alerones "puente" en los bigotes... veremos com van evolucionando...

Os habeis fijado en la parte posterior del McLaren, lleva una especie de aleron entre la cupula y el lateral del coche, ¿verdad?.

Muy cierto Tenista...o nos engaña la imagen, o es algo "raro" ese ala o lo que sea....es más, si no es un efecto visual parece como si sólo lo tuviera en el costado derecho del coche...???

Yo creo que es un efecto óptico que hace parecer que la tirilla que sale del capó motor y va al centro de ese ala que une los dos aletines al final de los costados va en realidad directamente a los costados (al derecho en este caso), y es que están a la misma altura y eso lo confunde todo.

En ésta segunda se aprecia lo que yo he llamado el "ala que une los dos aletines al final de los costados"

Sin embargo, en la foto 5 de la galería del test en Monza de la página formula1.com del Toyota de Trulli por el pit lane se aprecia lo que yo creo que es, pero en un Toyota (en el McLaren es más exagerada y larga la tirilla que salé de la tapa del motor, eso sí).

En blanco la "tirilla que sale del capó motor" que se une por el centro al "ala que une los dos aletines al final de los costados", en negro es esta imagen (número 5 de esta galería):

Yo también he pensado lo mismo que acaba de explicar y poner en imagen Julián: en un "espejismo" de efecto óptico de la foto (esas rayas de pintura desplazadas), y no en un aletín o nuevo elemento aerodinámico introducido...

Heidfeld tops the times in Monza test

Nick Heidfeld during testing at MonzaNick Heidfeld posted the quickest time on the second day of testing at the Monza circuit, where all Formula One teams were in action today.

The German, who has been told by his BMW Sauber team to lift his game in order to secure a new deal for 2009, set a best time of 1:22.621 as he focused on set-up work in preparation for the Italian Grand Prix next month.

Heidfeld finished ahead of Williams's Nico Rosberg, the German completing 100 laps.

Heidfeld and Rosberg were the only two drivers who managed to lap the Italian track in less than 83 seconds, with McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen third quickest but already in the 1:23 bracket.

Sebastian Vettel continued with his impressive form by posting the fourth fastest time for Toro Rosso, despite only running in the morning. Vettel was replaced by teammate Sebastien Bourdais in the afternoon, although the Frenchman finished down in 10th position.

Yesterday's pace-setter Felipe Massa had to settle for fifth place today, the Ferrari driver causing the only red flag of the day when he spun into the gravel at the Ascari chicane.

Fernando Alonso took over from Renault teammate Nelsinho Piquet to continue with the French squad's preparations for the Monza race. Alonso was sixth quickest ahead of the Force India of Adrian Sutil and the Red Bull of Mark Webber, the busiest man today.

Jarno Trulli was ninth quickest for Toyota, ahead of the Hondas of Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button, who shared one car, the Brazilian driving in the morning and the Briton in the afternoon.

Y a ver si tira para adelante eso del KERS o como se llame, ¿le pondrán un botón tipo "turbo bost" como en el coche de Maikelnait???


y también quiten las alas esas, que el domingo lo pasé mal con el incidente de Kimmi y el mecánico, que tal como cayó le podía cortar la yugular con cualquier apendice del coche.

Hamilton ends Monza test on top

Lewis Hamilton during testing at MonzaLewis Hamilton finished on top of the timesheets on the final day of testing at the Monza circuit in Italy.

The championship leader took over from teammate Heikki Kovalainen to wrap up McLaren's preparations for the Italian Grand Prix, setting a best time of 1:22.967 after 97 laps.

Hamilton's time was some three tenths of a second slower than that set by Nick Heidfeld on Thursday, but the Briton was the only driver who managed to complete a lap in 1:22s today.

World champion Kimi Raikkonen was second fastest for Ferrari, albeit nearly four tenths behind Hamilton.

Italian Giancarlo Fisichella completed a positive test for Force India with a surprising third quickest time after a massive 114 laps.

Kazuki Nakajima in the Williams and David Coulthard in the Red Bull completed the top five. The Scot was the busiest man on track today, covering 120 laps.

BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica, in contrast, only managed 57 laps after going off the track in the morning. Only his BMW Sauber car sustained little damage, repairing was time consuming and he could only return to the track after the lunch break.
