Pedro de la Rosa will start the German GP from ninth position, which represents his best performance of the season to date, and only the team’s second top 10 place after Eddie Irvine’s sixth in Monaco. His last run was spoiled by yellow flags in the stadium section, ironically after his predecessor Luciano Burti spun into the tyre wall! When there are yellows out any driver who sets a quick time, or more specifically his best sector time, risks having his best lap annulled. Pedro opted to abandon the lap and stick with what he already had. He spoke to Adam Cooper after qualifying.

Q: Are you happy with the way things went today?
“It’s my first top 10 qualifying for Jaguar Racing. I must say that during the whole session the only thing I did was take a little rear wing off for the last run, because the car was just perfectly balanced. It’s the best so far this season. There were a lot of yellow flags on the last lap in the Motodrom. On my split times I was 0.3s quicker, and I think I could have been a little bit better.”

Q: So you aborted that last lap so you wouldn’t be penalised?
“Yes. I backed off, and I lost 0.35s in one corner, because really I thought it was too dangerous. There were yellow flags, there was a road car in the middle of the track, so I said to myself I have to back off! I was going to do a mega lap. I would have been thrown to the back of the grid. I had to do it. I tell you something, I’m not a cautious guy, but today I was cautious because I had done a good lap and it was just too dangerous. I knew we could make it in the top 10 and I didn’t want to be disqualified just to go 0.3s quicker.”

Q: Generally you’re pleased with progress?
“I’m pleased with the car, and I think we did a great job from yesterday to pick up a lot of speed, and that’s thanks a lot to Eddie. After yesterday I was not happy with the car, and we went to Eddie’s set-up.”

Q: Do you think you’re well placed to get points?
“Yes. We’re happy with qualifying, but especially the race pace of the tyres. That was the best thing for me with these tyres. And starting so high up makes life so much easier, because our Michelin tyres go well in this weather.”

Q: What’s the tyre situation?
“We are both on the same strategy.”

Me ha alegrado leer esto pk pienso que mañana sus tiempos en carrera estaran mas altos del 9º puesto, a ver si hace una buena salida y gana un par de puestos.
