Pedro Martínez de la Rosa, piloto de pruebas de la escudería McLaren-Mercedes, declaró en Bahrein, tras los entrenamientos de pretemporada, que su equipo estará en la lucha por la victoria desde la primera carrera, y cree que pueden ganar a cualquiera. El español se mostró muy optimista ante el comienzo de la temporada, el Gran Premio de Australia, el 18 de marzo. "Seguro que nuestros coches estarán luchando por la victoria. Creo que podemos ganar a cualquiera", dijo.

"He trabajado muy a gusto con Fernando (Alonso) y Lewis (Hamilton). Parecía como si lleváramos mucho más tiempo juntos", señaló el barcelonés sobre los dos pilotos titulares del equipo. De la Rosa considera que la que acaba de terminar es la mejor pretemporada del equipo desde que está en él, y considera que la fiabilidad "ha sido muy buena a lo largo de todo el invierno" y que los coches no han tenido problemas graves.

"Esto nos ha permitido hacer muy bien el trabajo previsto, y todas las mejoras que han llegado desde la fábrica han supuesto una continua mejora", agregó. "Los problemas que hemos podido tener han sido siempre por utilizar materiales que estaban al final de su vida útil, y eso es algo normal, ya que tenemos que exprimir hasta el final el material hasta que se rompe para saber cuál es su verdadera resistencia", agregó.

Bahreïn – J1 : Räikkönen bat la pole position 2007

Ayant boudé les essais de Barcelone pour mieux se consacrer à un déplacement judicieux dans la chaleur des Emirats Arabes Unis et sur un circuit qui accueillera la 3è manche du championnat du monde de Formule Un 2008, Ferrari et Toyota ont entamé ce matin leur semaine d’essais privés de Bahreïn.

Le tracé de Sakhir, situé dans le désert, est traditionnellement poussiéreux et offre peu d’adhérence en début de session. Räikkönen n’a pourtant pas été intimidé ni gêné par l’absence d’anti-patinage sur le sable. Le champion du monde en titre a ouvert le bal en mettant à mal la pole position 2007, qui avait été le fait de son équipier, Felipe Massa (1:32.652).

Kobayashi apprend le tracé Bahreïni en douceur et ferme logiquement la marche. Les deux Toyota accusent pour l’instant un déficit de 5km/h sur les Ferrari dans l’exercice de la vitesse de pointe.

Testing has started with Raikkonen and Badoer (instead of the previously thought Massa) - the Brasilian will arrive on Wednesday to replace the testdriver. Then after a two day pause the two racing drivers will continue the work. Schumacher is definately not going to test here, he'll probably do so during the last test of the winter.

Lot's of work will concentrate on the MECU once more, Ferrari want to get things perfectly right with it, without revealing its own secrets to McLaren.

Some new solutions regarding the management of the engine will be introduced in order to improve the control of the car thanks to a greater sensitivity of the accelerator.

Some new parts get extra attention at this test, in particular those on the (rear)suspension in order to better bring the power of the engine to the road. The same goes for optimising the ballast, especially when the tank gets emptier: we're talking about a variable of 90 kg here, which is about 15% of the total car weight.

We'll see how much work has been done on the aerodynamics of the sidepods but we'll probably have to wait for that till Spain...

No third F2008 is scheduled to debut in Bahrain, the two cars used so far have undergone 'a first class' revision, with all the components (including the chassis) having been put through a structural analysis.

Ferrari, Toyota kick off Bahrain test

The Ferrari and Toyota teams kicked off on Monday their three-day testing programme at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain.

Both teams had skipped last weekend's test at Barcelona in order to carry out two testing sessions at the Bahraini circuit, where they will work until Wednesday and then again from Sunday to Tuesday next week.

World champion Kimi Raikkonen was the fastest man in today's test, finishing over a second ahead of Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer. Both men were driving this year's car.

Toyota had race driver Timo Glock and tester Kamui Kobayashi working with the new TF108. German Glock finished less than a tenth behind Badoer after setting his fastest lap with new tyres near the end of the session.

"I had quite a good day and we did a lot of useful work," said Glock. "In the morning there was a lot of sand on the track and from lap to lap we went quicker as the track got cleaner.

"It was difficult to get consistent track conditions but towards the end of the day it was better and we did some important tests. It has been a pretty good session and it was important to do these mechanical set-up changes. I hope tomorrow is less windy and we can continue this work."

La verdad es que parece que Ferrari está a otro nivel, por muy test que sean, quedar a 1,4 de Kimi y por detrás de Badoer (que nunca suele hacer tiempos rápidos en los test, al menos que yo recuerde)es como para que Toyota se vaya poniendo las pilas.

Bahreïn – J2 : Räikkönen s’approche du record de la piste

Kimi Räikkönen a ouvert sa 2è journée d’essais de Bahreïn par un divers runs courts d’excellente facture. Le meilleur, entamé à 11h39, s’est conclu par un meilleur temps qui fait voler en éclats le meilleur temps enregistré l’année dernière sur le circuit de Sakhir (Massa, 1:31.359 en Q2).

En s’inscrivant dans la fenêtre des 1:30, le champion du monde en titre s’approche du record de la piste du désert (Fernando Alonso, pole position 2005, 1:29.848). Seuls 6 pilotes ont été plus vite dans l’histoire du circuit de Sakhir, tous lors des qualifications 2005, lorsque les monoplaces étaient propulsées par des V10 et disposait d’un anti-patinage salvateur sur un tarmac sablonneux et peu adhérent.

Räikkönen et Ferrari enregistrent en outre une Vmax qui flirtent avec le seuil des 300km/h, soit près de 10km/h de mieux que Jarno Trulli.

Raikkonen sets blistering pace in Bahrain

World champion Kimi Raikkonen continued to set the pace at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain, where Ferrari and Toyota are testing this week.

Helped by improved weather conditions, with nearly no wind, Raikkonen managed a best time of 1:30.595 after carrying out a Grand Prix simulation with the F2008.

Raikkonen's best lap was over two seconds faster than the pole position time of last year's Grand Prix.

Badoer, meanwhile, carried out general development of the new car, covering 64 laps.

Italian Jarno Trulli joined Toyota teammate Timo Glock for today's session, as the Japanese squad continued working on the development of the new TF108.

German Glock was the quickest of the Toyota duo, albeit over two second slower than Raikkonen. Trulli finished nearly three seconds behind the Finn after losing track time due to a problem with his car.

"It was a difficult day because we had a problem on the car so unfortunately I spent some time in the garage while this was fixed but that is part of testing," said Trulli

"Obviously it wasn't ideal but we have more days here where we will work to better understand the balance and behaviour of the car. At the moment we are still in the first stages of our preparation - we have updates and more performance to come."
