Lo que sí es verdad es que están cargando a Pedro con el grueso de las pruebas del coche 2008, para mí esto es muy significativo a la hora de conseguir el volante, más que todas las especulaciones sobre cambios de pilotos.

Yo creo que al día siguiente de que Alonso anuncie a dónde va, confirman a Pedro como piloto oficial.

Hoy ha tenido lugar la primera jornada de entrenamientos de la semana en el Circuito de Jerez de la Frontera donde el piloto alemán Nick Heidfeld ha marcado el mejor crono al volante de su BMW Sauber.


El primer día de la última sesión de tests del año contó con la presencia de 20 pilotos sobre el trazado jerezano. Los equipos continúan con los preparativos para la próxima temporada y adaptándose a los cambios en el reglamento, como es la eliminación de ayudas a los pilotos.

En el día en que los 'slicks' han regresado a la Fórmula Uno, Nick Heidfeld fue el piloto más rápido con un tiempo de 1'19"042, mientras que sus compañeros de la jornada, los debutantes Marko Asmer y Javier Villa, completaron sus respectivos programas sin problemas y se mostraron satisfechos con los resultados.

El británico Jenson Button quedó en segundo lugar en la tabla de cronos con un 1'19"155, mientras que el tercer lugar fue para el español Pedro de la Rosa, que hoy trabajó junto a Gary Paffett.

Después de unas merecidas vacaciones, Kimi Raikkonen regresó esta mañana al trabajo y al volante de su Ferrari completó 73 vueltas y marcó el cuarto mejor tiempo (1'20"083). Junto a Marc Gené, el piloto finlandés estuvo evaluando el desarrollo de nuevos componentes para la próxima temporada, haciendo énfasis en la electrónica.

Renault, a la espera de que Fernando Alonso decida o no correr con sus colores en 2008, ha estado entrenando con Nelson Piquet Jr, que acabó en quinto lugar por delante del francés Sebastien Bourdais, el inglés Gary Paffett, el australiano Mark Webber y el español Marc Gené.

El décimo mejor crono del día fue para el piloto de las GP2 Series Mike Conway, que hoy entrenó para el equipo Super Aguri junto a su compatriota James Rossiter, mientras que el campeón de la llamada antesala de la Fórmula Uno, Timo Glock, acabó en decimotercer lugar en su debut con Toyota.

Los entrenamientos continuarán mañana en Jerez de la Frontera con la participación del británico Lewis Hamilton con McLaren Mercedes y el brasileño Felipe Massa con Ferrari.

Button gives slicks the thumbs-up

Jenson Button has given the return of slick tyres to Formula One action a big thumbs up, as he labelled his first run on the experimental rubber at Jerez in Spain as pure 'fun'.

Teams have been handed a few sets of the slick tyres by Bridgestone this week as part of a preliminary evaluation for their return to F1 in 2009. Honda, BMW Sauber and Super used the first day of this week's final test of the year to try out the rubber.

And although the new tyres proved instantly faster, with Nick Heidfeld and Button topping the timesheets, the drivers were far happier that they had delivered an improved feel compared to the grooves that have been used since 1998.

"It was fun," Button told autosport.com about his first run on slicks. "It was the first time I ever drove slicks on an F1 car, and it was more predictable. You know where the car is going a lot more.

"I think it was F3 when I last drove on slicks, and I really enjoyed it today. Obviously it is only the beginning of the development, but I had a good impression. We still have to work together with the 2009 regulations, but it was good."

But despite Button's optimism about the new slicks, Super Aguri test driver James Rossiter issued a more cautious note as he went even further with simulation for 2009.

With Button and Heidfeld trying out the slicks with 2008 levels of downforce, Rossiter evaluated the slick rubber with 2009 levels - and had mixed feelings about what cars will feel like in two year's time.

He reckoned that any benefit the slick tyres would bring to the handling of the car would be negated by planned cuts in downforce levels due to new aerodynamic rules.

"I tried the 2009-simulated downforce levels with grooved tyres and it was undriveable," he told autosport.com. "But then I put the slicks on and it got better.

"On slicks I think you are better on high speed corners, and maybe you can get closer to the cars in front, but I think you lose a bit in the lower speed corners. So I don't know.

"It is still in the initial stage of development, so we will see what happens. But I must say it was quite difficult to drive."

The day starts with a red flag. Piquet spun off track in turn 8 during his installation lap. There are rubber marks visible on track and the car is parked to the barriers. It's unknown how much damaged was caused to the Renault.

Track is clear again and Vettel was the first to go out. De La Rosa, Hamilton, Heidfeld, Button, Webber and Kubica followed almost immediately.

Massa and Raikkonen are making their first run of the day also.

It was Hamilton that caused the red flag. The car has been returned to the team. Looking at the tyres, the car must have gone pretty hard through the gravel. According to the cronomen Lewis went off before turn 13 (so not 8) and probably spun as a result. It seems the runner up of this season still needs to get used to the new ECU.

Meanwhile the track status is green again and drivers are doing their laps.
