Richards no confirmó ninguna de las especulaciones que le han unido a McLaren, pero dijo que espera dar más detalles en julio en Silverstone.

“Obviamente no voy a decir nada, pero espero estar en posición de hacerlo para el verano, en el GP de Gran Bretaña. Eso incluiría para entonces espónsors y hasta pilotos.”

Si el acuerdo con McLaren por coches y motores se diera, se ha sugerido que Prodrive usaría entonces a los pilotos de pruebas del equipo, Pedro de la Rosa y Gary Paffett para 2008.

Richards ha admitido que tal mezcla de juventud y experiencia sería probablemente la opción que a su equipo le gustaría tomar.

Segun la entrevista DR no cita a nadie. Solo dice que le mola mezclar un piloto experimentado con otro joven. Segun esto podria poner a Pedro y Gari tanto como a Button y Hamilton ... oo incluso a Clouthard si se quiere hartar de experiencia ...

MANAMA (Reuters) - Prodrive, que se convertirá en el duodécimo equipo de la Fórmula Uno el año próximo, espera revelar el nombre de sus pilotos y socios en el Gran Premio Británico en julio, dijo el viernes el jefe de la compañía, David Richards.

El británico, ex director de los equipos BAR y Benetton de la F1 y quien también se halla al frente de un grupo que está comprando al fabricante Aston Martin de manos de Ford, dijo que está cerca de un acuerdo para utilizar un chasis y motores provisto por un importante constructor.

"En el verano espero poder hacer, probablemente en el Gran Premio Británico, un anuncio completo sobre los patrocinadores y también sobre los pilotos," le dijo Richards a Reuters.

Richards agregó que tenía poco sentido comprar un motor de un equipo y un chasis de otro.

Richards llegó a Bahréin desde Kuwait, donde tuvo reuniones con inversores por el proyecto Aston Martin.

Sus socios incluyen el grupo inversor de Kuwait DAR y la Adeem Investment Co.

El británico no pudo descartar una eventual participación de Aston Martin en la Fórmula Uno.

Prodrive está planeando sacar ventaja del controvertido cambio de reglas para el año próximo, que permitirá a los equipos de la F1 correr con autos que no hayan sido fabricados por ellos, en lugar de ser dueños de la propiedad intelectual como en el presente.

Teniendo encuenta que Prodive por bien que vaya estará a la altura de Red Bull,Super Aguri, Williams, etc., que os hace pensar que Pedro va a ir a un equipo, sin opciones de victorias,cuando este verano dijo que habia rechazado ofertas porque no eran de equipos punteros?
Yo ya me he hecho a la idea de que Pedro no volverá a correr,salvo milagro, en la f1.

Bien pudiera esta ser la clave de porqué Pedro que ha quedado en McLaren, quizás sea más que una probabilidad y haya algo que no sabemos. Ojala se nos diera, sería fantástico volver a ver a Pedro en un volante.

David Richards popped up in Bahrain, saying that he was "on holiday" with his family in nearby Kuwait, which is funding his purchase of Aston Martin. Richards says that there the company has decided that there will be no involvement in Formula 1 for at least five years but he does not rule out taking the Aston Martin name back to F1 in the longer-term. He says that the name of the new Formula 1 team he will run next year will "probably" be Prodrive and says that the team is no great hurry to run a car, and intends to keep a lot profile until December when it will go into action with a car which will be acquired from one of the existing teams. This Prodrive can do but there are still questions about whether or not the team will be allowed to score points. Richards is confident that the FIA will let that happen and even seems to be under the impression that Bernie Ecclestone will be extending his payments to the teams to all 12 entrants as opposed to the traditional top 10. Ecclestone has always argued that the final two should not get the TV and travel money because it helps to reward the successful and keeps out organisations that might exist simply to pick up cash. Ecclestone might agree to change that as it does not matter to him whether the 50% of the income he generates goes to 10 teams or to 12 teams. However this will mean that the others will get less and thus it is not likely that everyone will agree to that unless they can be talked into it.

The question of whether Prodrive can score points is a question of interpretation as he argues that the rules state that the Constructors' Championship is awarded to "the make" which has scored the the most points and that definition of "the make" is different to the definition of "the constructor".

The constructor owns the intellectual property rights but "the make" is the name that a constructor attributes to a car and thus if McLaren builds some cars for Prodrive and gives them the name Prodrive, they can score points.

If this interpretation is accepted it will reopen the can of worms over customer cars with the smaller independent teams likely to be up in arms as this will mean that the possibility exists that they will be squeezed out of the sport by the manufacturers expanding to run more cars in order to create more cost-effective programmes.

Richard was spotted visiting McLaren, adding to the widely-held belief that he will be running rebadged McLarens as Prodrives next year. This deal is likely to be expensive but if Richards can squeeze a little money from his friends in Kuwait he will be in a strong position to do well.

However a lot more water will have to go under the F1 bridge before that can happen, as several teams say that the Memorandum of Understanding that they signed a year ago would be invalid if the fundamental principle of F1 being for constructors only was altered.

It seems, sadly, that this story has a long way to run yet.

Desde luego puede ser una buena opción para entrar en la Fórmula 1, muy fiable para una escudería nueva, y que en dos años podría dar resultados (no el año próximo), al estilo de Super Aguri vamos.

El problema es que a Honda no le está saliendo bien el invento, tengo la sensación, y como se dice, para Prodrive también sería una operación cara (aunque parece que de pasta no van mal).

En cuanto a Pedro, creo que si tiene tres años de contrato, y en McLaren le quiren hacer cumplir los tres años, y él quiere, la opción de pilotar para Prodrive no es mala, siempre que sea una "cesión" y que Prodrive se convierta en una filial de McLaren. No creo que en otras condiciones McLaren se deshiciese de Pedro, y tampoco Pedro tiene capacidad para presionar porque no es una joven promesa ni Prodrive va a ser una escudería de puntuar todos los grandes premios.

Si Pedro consigue dos temporadas cedido puede ser una buena opción, porque Prodrive puede funcionar para el 2009, pero no creo que sea este el caso. Si sólo es para la próxima temporada, yo creo que Pedro se la debería de jugar si el material va a ser "made in McLaren", y con la pasta y la preparación de Prodrive ya durante este año, pueden ponerse en una buena posición para la próxima temporada (buena posición me refiero para poder conseguir puntuar esporádicamente la próxima temporada).

Pedro tampoco tiene más opciones en la Fórmula 1, y lo que le queda es salir de la Fórmula 1 a otras categorías donde igual tampoco tiene un buen coche. Por lo tanto, es una cuestión que tendrá que valorar. Prodrive es una apuesta arriesgada para el próximo año, pero...

En todo caso, sigo pensando que Pedro no está en posición de elegir desgraciadamente, y que habrá que ver si en Prodrive quieren a Pedro.

Prodrive boss David Richards has made his first appearance at a Grand Prix since Silverstone last July, and insists that his F1 project is on schedule despite a lack of hard news.

Prodrive is pursuing the customer route and has had discussions with McLaren, Renault and BMW. McLaren remains the obvious favorite, Ron Dennis having pursued a “B-team” project for several years, and supported an application for the 12th entry that Prodrive eventually won.

Dennis still has his team’s former factory available as a base, which fits perfectly with Prodrive’s intent to in essence be a race team that arrives at the track to run cars built and prepared elsewhere.

McLaren is known to want a three-year deal, and is apparently willing to help direct sponsors towards the team.

Richards insisted that his visit to Bahrain was a social one, and that he happened to be in nearby Dubai on Aston Martin business. However, he was able to drop in on a meeting of team principals at which the 2007 customer car issue and the future Concorde Agreement were discussed with Bernie Ecclestone.

Richards says he is not worried about the controversy affecting his plans.

“It’s all about money,” he told SPEEDtv.com. “Nothing more than money. I’ve got concerns about it, and I’ve got a business model to work to, and I’ve got to make that work. And I will keep pushing my position on that.

“I don’t know yet what the latest discussion is on the table or what the consequences might be.”

Richards insists that his plans are on schedule, although he admits that he took his eye of the ball when orchestrating the purchase of Aston Martin. He intends to announce his plans at the British GP in July.

“It’s not a deadline, I just set myself an internal target to have a lot of the issues resolved by then. I’ve set myself three months, and within that three months we should have most of the boxes ticked.”

“Everything’s is to plan, there’s never been any risk. I’m sure we could have sorted it out months ago if I hadn’t had the Aston Martin project on my hands.”

He says that he can run his program with as few as 65 employees, plus a few extras from the partner team.

“It depends on the relationship. We’ve had three different scenarios, all of them different, as one might expect, in subtleties. But at the minimum you get down to running a team with 65 I think, if you had all the supportive relationship with the right team partner.”

Prodrive does not currently have space from which to run an F1 project, even if the main preparation is done elsewhere, although Richards says that a base has been found: “We’ve made provision now for an extra facility.”

He insists that it will be no problem for the partner team to build six identical cars in time for the first race. In contrast this winter Toro Rosso had to build its own parts as Red Bull Racing did not have the capacity to service both teams.

“That’s when you haven’t planned it, and you haven’t thought about it well in advance.”

Puede ser una posibilidad que parte del acuerdo entre Prodrive y Mclaren para la venta de chásis y motor sea que el equipo de Ron Dennis le exija usar a sus actuales 2 probadores como compensación...de esta forma habrá 0 filtraciones y para Mclaren será muxo mejor.

David Richards, máximo responsable de Prodrive, conocido también por gestionar el Mundial de Rallies y el equipo Subaru, ha asegurado en Bahrain que espera poder desvelar su coche y los pilotos para competir en el Mundial de F1 de 2008 durante el próximo British Grand Prix, que tendrá lugar el próximo 8 de julio en Silverstone. Y puede haber una agradable sorpresa, ya que su acercamiento a McLaren puede propiciar que uno de sus pilotos sea Pedro de la Rosa.

Richards, que aseguró sentirse satisfecho de cómo están transcurriendo sus negociaciones, no escondió que está buscando en el paddock un chasis cliente y un motor para su primera temporada en F1. Prodrive ha mantenido diversas negociaciones con Ferrari, Renault y McLaren sobre el particular, aunque estos últimos son los favoritos para llegar al acuerdo.
