(...)The year opened with Irvine's fourth place in Melbourne, the scene of his 1999 victory with Ferrari, but Lauda knew it was a fluke result - albeit gratefully received. The mid-season drought was broken with the arrival of a new suspension package in Belgium at the start of this month. Irvine finished sixth - but there were increasing reports, especially in Germany, that Lauda's job was in jeopardy. "I feel relieved because you get a lot of criticism if you don't perform - which is normal and I can handle it," he said. "But it is good to be on the other side of the fence and not always being attacked. "It takes a lot of pressure off me because we haven't had a result since Melbourne - except the sixth place in Spa." He said Jaguar had very quickly become aware just how bad the car was when they tested it before Australia. "We knew after the first test in Barcelona at the beginning of the season where the uprights were like chewing gum," he said. "But we got the full picture in Melbourne. The surprise was that we lost reliability too as we went quicker so we had to really start from scratch. "First we did the aerodynamics, then suspension, then looked at the monocoque and then we realised what our problem was. The front suspension appeared for the first time at Spa and suddenly we moved from the back of the grid to the top 10. And in Monza we got the same result. "This is the result of starting with a terrible car. We knew how long it would take to overcome our problems at the start of the year." But he said he was pleased the team had opted to stick with the new car, the R3, despite pressure from within the team saying it would be better to ditch the entire design and return to the R2 which had been competitive the season before. "We decided it was better to go back to the basics with the R4 and I'm glad we did," he said. "To make a better car out of this car now is easy. If you have a very bad car and you have to guess to get out you can make very bad mistakes. "We were in the first 10 in qualifying, we have the speed and we know where our level is." las cosas no son como empiezan, sino como terminan -------------------- No se trata solo de ganar; se trata de correr, de competir, de ir lo más rápido posible!
