Alonso : "Es un circuito en el que no puedes cometer errores

Mónaco, 24/05/01 (DeporWeb).-El piloto español Fernando Alonso (European Minardi), que apenas ha rodado en la segunda sesión de la jornada de entrenamientos libres del Gran Premio de Mónaco al darse un pequeño golpe en una curva afirmó que "no puedes tener ningún error en el circuito".


"Cuando intentas empujar un poco mas, te pasas del límite y tocas con algo, es un circuito en el que no puedes tener ningún error, aquí no puedes salirte un poco a la hierba, aquí, terminas la sesión", afirmó.

Alonso añadió que el día le fue mal, ya que se perdió toda la segunda sesión que era la más rápida, por lo que marcó tiempos bastante malos y no pudo trabajar nada.

"En la primera", añadió, "no hicimos ningún cambio al coche, porque la pista estaba muy sucia y mejoraba a cada vuelta, por lo que era inútil tocar nada y quedaba todo por hacer".

"El coche parece que va sobre hielo por el tipo de asfalto y tenemos más posibilidades que nadie para darnos el golpe. No creo que podamos mejorar mucho, porque todo el mundo prepara alerones especiales para aquí y más carga aerodinámica y nosotros vamos igual que siempre, no veo donde podamos mejorar, es difícil".

Pedro: "It's taken longer than expected to get up to speed"
Pedro de la Rosa will start his third Monaco GP from a respectable 14th place, matching his performance in Austria a fortnight ago. Considering that a crash on Thursday restricted him to just nine laps on a track where mileage is crucial, it was not a bad performance. The crash was caused by a throttle problem, and it was decided that he should use the T-car to minimise the risk of a repeat. Adam Cooper spoke to the Spaniard after qualifying.

Q: After the problems you had on Thursday, you can’t be too disappointed to qualify 14th?
“No, I’m pretty pleased about my performance in qualifying. We’ve been catching up since the start of today, because obviously I didn’t do many laps on Thursday and I paid for it. That’s how it is. In the end, it was not too bad. It gives the confidence back.”

Q: And confidence is crucial here…
“You need laps. I’ve come out of four consecutive crashes here; qualifying, the warm-up and the race last year, and then on Thursday, I got out on the first run, and crash again. Mentally on a circuit like this it’s not good. You need laps to recover. It has taken me longer than expected to get back up to speed.”

Q: You swapped chassis for today. Has that been beneficial?
“I think it’s also helped in terms of confidence. We didn’t know exactly what was going on in chassis 03, so we went to 06, which is the test car, and it’s working perfectly. We didn’t know exactly what was the problem, but because the throttle stuck open we had to be sure.”

Q: How much difference has the new aero package made?
“I think it’s a step forward, no question about that. Eddie is sixth today, but that position comes down more to him than to car. I’m 14th, which is where we normally qualify this year. I think the difference has come from Eddie!”

Q: But can you feel that it’s better out on the track?
“I’m not sure. I think it’s an improvement, but it’s not an improvement for moving up the grid to sixth. It’s probably two or three tenths. In another circuit that could make a big difference.”
