BARCELONA TEST – Day One (of Four) 20th March 2001 Marc drove a sole FW22B as well as had his first run in the FW23 Weather Sunny and dry. Average air temperature 26°C. Av. track temperature 29°C. The BMW WilliamsF1 Team today began the first of a four-day test programme on the Circuit de Catalunya, in Spain. Official test driver Marc Gené was on duty for both the cars present at the circuit (FW23 and FW22B) and he will be for the next two days as well. Juan Pablo Montoya will join the test tomorrow and Ralf will share the duties for the last two days (Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd). Marc Gené “It has been a positive day, as we could test all we had planned, achieving many trouble-free laps. I continuously swapped from one car to the other, which is not really easy, but I am glad I could drive for the first time the FW23, which - in my opinion - is much more driveable and competitive than the FW22 even if the times don’t show it." Sam Michael (WilliamsF1 Chief Operations Engineer) “Today was Marc’s first run in the FW23. He did a shake down of the new chassis and then some testing, with good results. He did a lot of work on software, developing traction control for the Spanish Grand Prix and also did some suspension testing. Marc ran in the FW22B as well, doing suspension and software work. We have a very full programme in terms of aerodynamic work, engine development and tyre testing and we are pleased to know that the weather forecast looks good for three more days.” Dr Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director “We are pleased with today’s test. We had planned to work on the tuning of both the engines in view of the Brazilian Grand Prix and there has been no technical problem at all on the engine side.”
