The weather here at Indianapolis Motor Speedway caught several people out yesterday, since there was supposed to be only a 20 percent chance of rain and instead it fell in both morning and afternoon.

Overnight there were some very heavy thunderstorms and lightning just to the east of Indianapolis which also left high wind damage in Noblesville just to the north. Wind speed exceeded 110 kph (70 mph) in places, and streets were flooded. At one stage there was even a tornado watch nearby.

The good news, however, is that the storm blew itself out around two o'clock this morning, and the skies have the pallid look of a hangover as the rest of the day (and tomorrow) is still expected to be only partly cloudy with temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius (low 60s Fahrenheit). There is only a 10 percent chance of further rain on raceday.
