FOTA urge for compromise in row

The Formula One Team's Association (FOTA) has sent a letter to the FIA calling for urgent compromise in the row over next year's rules to prevent the possibility of a breakaway series.

According to a report from Reuters news agency, the teams have offered to sign up to a version of the proposed budget cap, with provisos included, and have asked to extend the entry lock-off deadline to July 1 to allow time for further negotiations and sign a new Concorde Agreement.

"The time has come when, in the interests of the sport, we must all seek to compromise and bring an urgent conclusion to the protracted debate regarding the 2010 world championship," Reuters quoted the letter as saying.

"We hope that you will consider that this letter represents significant movement by the teams, all of whom have clearly stated a willingness to commit to the sport until the end of 2012.

"We would therefore strongly but respectfully submit that you consider these proposals and seek to avoid the potential departure from Formula One of some important teams.

"Now is the time to find a reasonable and rapid solution to the outstanding issues."

FOTA says in the letter that its teams could sign up to a version of the budget cap, or what it calls the 'resource restriction proposal' so long as it is independently policed and universal for all. In return for accepting this compromise the current teams would assist new entries with engine supplies and technical assistance.

"We detect... that a solution might be possible based on the FOTA resource restriction proposal but with measures introduced," the letter said.

"We would propose in this respect that we nominate a top firm of independent accountants who will devise an audit methodology that will be implemented by all of the teams.

"This methodology and the annual results would be disclosed to the FIA... we can see no reason why such a system based on objective verification of compliance would not be acceptable to all parties."

El fin del enfrentamiento entre los equipos y la Federación parece más próximo hoy que ayer. Los "rebeldes" de la FOTA han contactado con Max Mosley para resolver la controversia del límite presupuestario y las normas para 2010.

"Ha llegado el momento, por el bien del deporte, de que todos nos comprometamos urgentemente a concluir este debate sobre el campeonato del mundo de 2010", se lee en la carta que la FOTA ha enviado a la Federación.

"Esperamos se tenga en cuenta que esta carta representa un movimiento significativo de parte de los equipos, los cuales tienen una disposición firme de comprometerse con el deporte hasta el final de 2012".

En la carta, la FOTA propone que el límite presupuestario (ahora llamado "restricción de recursos") esté controlado por un grupo independiente y objetivo que informe anualmente a la FIA de los resultados.

"No vemos ningún motivo por el cual un sistema objetivo basado en la verificación del cumplimiento no sería aceptable por todas las partes", dice la carta.

El presidente de la FIA, Max Mosley, ya ha acordado suavizar su postura y aumentar el presupuesto hasta los 100 millones de euros.

La alianza FOTA también está buscando ampliar la fecha límite para la confirmación de los equipos de 2010 dos semanas. De modo que hasta el 1 de julio habría tiempo para que el nuevo Pacto de la Concordia llegara a buen puerto.

Desde luego no se podrá decir que la FIA en este proceso no es transparente, porque constantemente y casi en tiempo real está haciendo públicas todas las negociaciones y comunicaciones que hay entre FIA y FOTA.

Todo parece indicar que este viernes estará todo solucionado y los equipos que habían presentado una inscripción condicional aceptarán la inscripción de forma definitiva.

Parece que la FIA traga... a medias. Bueno, ya es algo.
Al menos habrá F1 el año que viene con los grandes con el presupuesto limitado a 100 millones y algo muy importante, Mosley ha accedido a revisar el pacto de la concordia que desde mi punto de vista, ese podría ser un traspiés para 2011.
La FIA ha tensado demasiado la cuerda con la FOTA y no se esperaba que ferrari fuera capaz de romperla, pero Montezemolo no estaba de farol esta vez.

Mosley outlines deal offer to teams


FIA president Max Mosley has informed teams of the package of rules that he is willing to accept for next year, AUTOSPORT has learned, as a final push is made by the governing body to end the standoff over entries to the 2010 championship.

The eight members of the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) have until Friday to lift the conditions attached to their entries - and efforts are increasing on both sides to try and reach a settlement.

After a day of further letters between motor racing's governing body and FOTA, Mosley has as promised laid out the terms by which he wants the teams to sign up. And although there had been fears of a total breakdown in discussions between the two parties, Mosley has informed FOTA that he is willing to make some movement on the question of governance in the sport.

He has told teams that he is prepared to discuss the FIA's International Court of Appeal, and also remove the controversial Appendix 5 to the 2010 Sporting Regulations. This latter element had angered teams, who feared that it gave the governing body carte blanche to impose whatever rules they wanted.

Mosley also said that he was willing to change some of the technical regulations for 2010. If the teams agree, the moveable wing rules will remain as they were for 2009, 4WD cars will not be allowed, tyre warmers will continue and the engine rules will remain as they are for this year - except customer Cosworth units will be allowed to run unrestricted. Also gearbox rules will remain as they are for 2009, as will testing limitations.

Mosley also made it clear that he would be willing to accept a 100 million Euros cost cap limit for next year, providing that it was reduced to 45 million Euros for 2011. This was the same figure that was outlined in a letter sent to FOTA president Luca di Montezemolo following the team meeting in Monaco.

Outline plans were also detailed for how the budget cap would be policed with 'self-reporting of compliance using a reputable auditor' used. Mosley also confirmed that breaches of the budget cap rules would not result in on-track sanctions, but would instead be 'financial against a pre-agreed formula.'

FOTA now has 48 hours to to decide whether to accept the terms and sign up for F1, or decide to stand firm and risk being left off the grid.

Imagino que en cuestión de horas estará todo resuelto, la FOTA aceptará y a correr.

Bufff... como me cuesta creer que vayan a reducir de 100 mill a 45 del 2010 al 2011, creo que el próximo año tendremos otra montada!!!

No te quepa la menor duda, el año que viene hay jaleo de nuevo, hasta que la FOTA consiga controlar la F1 a su antojo o se larguen a montar un campeonato alternativo o se larguen los viejales de la FIA.

Aunque yo creo que principalmente la razón de tanta disidencia es Eclestone y sus autoritarias maneras.

FOTA teams to launch breakaway series

The Formula One Teams' Association announced on Thursday night that it is setting up a breakaway championship.

Following a four hour meeting at Renault's Enstone factory, the eight members of FOTA - Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, BMW, Toyota, Brawn, Red Bull and Scuderia Toro Rosso - said they had grown frustrated with the FIA's stance against the organisation, and had no option but to create a series of their own.

"The teams cannot continue to compromise on the fundamental values of the sport and have declined to alter their original conditional entries to the 2010 World Championship," said a statement issued by FOTA after the meeting.

"These teams therefore have no alternative other than to commence the preparation for a new Championship which reflects the values of its participants and partners. This series will have transparent governance, one set of regulations, encourage more entrants and listen to the wishes of the fans, including offering lower prices for spectators worldwide, partners and other important stakeholders.

"The major drivers, stars, brands, sponsors, promoters and companies historically associated with the highest level of motorsport will all feature in this new series."

F1 teams were given until Friday evening to remove the conditions attached to the provisional entries they posted earlier this month, or risk being left off the grid in 2010.

FIA president Max Mosley wrote to the teams yesterday offering them some of the concessions that they wanted to see regarding governance of the sport, but made it clear that he was sticking to plans for the introduction of a budget cap.

In his letter, Mosley also urged the teams to sign up to the championship before sorting out the final version of the regulations and a redrafted Concorde Agreement.

In response to that letter, the teams met at Renault's Enstone headquarters on Thursday evening for lengthy talks, where they finally decided that there was no way a compromise deal could be reached with the FIA.

The teams expressed frustration that their efforts to try and improve F1 had been rebuffed by the governing body and the sport's commercial rights holder.

"Since the formation of FOTA last September the teams have worked together and sought to engage the FIA and commercial rights holder, to develop and improve the sport," said the statement.

"Unprecedented worldwide financial turmoil has inevitably placed great challenges before the F1 community. FOTA is proud that it has achieved the most substantial measures to reduce costs in the history of our sport.

"In particular the manufacturer teams have provided assistance to the independent teams, a number of which would probably not be in the sport today without the FOTA initiatives. The FOTA teams have further agreed upon a substantial voluntary cost reduction that provides a sustainable model for the future.

"Following these efforts all the teams have confirmed to the FIA and the commercial rights holder that they are willing to commit until the end of 2012.

"The FIA and the commercial rights holder have campaigned to divide FOTA.

"The wishes of the majority of the teams are ignored. Furthermore, tens of millions of dollars have been withheld from many teams by the commercial rights holder, going back as far as 2006. Despite this and the uncompromising environment, FOTA has genuinely sought compromise."

The announcement by FOTA looks certain to overshadow the British Grand Prix, which takes place at Silverstone for the final time this weekend and which Mosley is expected to attend tomorrow.

With FOTA's stance now seemingly leaving no room for a deal possible, its likely that more new teams will be added to the FIA's 2010 Formula 1 entry list.

The inclusion of Ferrari, Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso on that roster remains open to debate, however, with the FIA claiming that the teams committed themselves to F1 in a deal agreed several years ago.

El tiempo da y quita razones, pero yo estoy ilusionado con un nuevo campeonato. Este no me gusta un pelo, y me parece que los últimos años han sido vergonzosos en algunos aspectos.

Yo tenía bastante claro que a poco que los equipos vieran factible hacer un nuevo campeonato lo harían. La manera de librarse de la dictadura de Bernie.

Aunque hasta que no lo vea no lo creeré. Demasiados intereses en juego.

Yo opino como Mike Watt, de momento voy a ser prudente en lanzar campanas al vuelo porque podría ocurrir que se haga una reunión de urgencia con la FIA y se arregle la cosa, siendo la noticia de la FOTA una maniobra para forzar la situación y tumbar a Mosley ya que ayer dio síntomas de aflojar. Habrá que esperar.

Por otra parte, si realmente ya está decidido, espero que se cumpla con la idea de tener 3 coches en pista por equipo y veamos a Pedro de nuevo sobre el McLaren peleando por victorias.

Yo creo que es más una amenaza... una competición paralela es mucho dinero y tendrían que ver muchísimas cosas, circuitos, TV's, reglas, equipos.

Además posiblemente se abrirían demandas y muchos follones... no creo que lo hagan. Y eso podría ocasionar el fin de la fórmula 1 y de la nueva competición que naciera si no se hace todo bien, al igual que las fórmulas Renault, que sirven de lanzamiento para la Fórmula 1 y... bueno... yo creo que no se sabe que ocurriría si esto pasa.

Pues yo si me lo creo, de hecho ya lo dije unos post atras, que la FOTA empezo con unas exgiencias pero a medida que se ha ido profundizando en el tema, ha visto los beneficios del campeonato pararlelo y ahora ya no estan dispuestos a volver atras yo creo que a ningun precio.

Resulta demasiado atractivo el tema de librarse de dos dictaduras a la vez, la de Bernie y la de Mosley. Estoy seguro que Luca, Briatore y otros estan frotandose las manos.


Y respecto a los que haceis mencion a demandas millonarias, excepto ferrari que tiene el compromiso firmado, me gustaria saber por que motivo iba FOM o FIA a demandar a Renault, Mclaren, etc..

FOTA anuncia creación de un nuevo campeonato

Los ocho equipos que conforman la Asociación de Equipos de Fórmula Uno (FOTA) han confirmado que dejarán la categoría reina del automovilismo al final de la presente temporada tras no haber llegado a un acuerdo con la Federación Internacional de Automovilismo (FIA) respecto al reglamento para el campeonato de 2010.

La FOTA, cuyos equipos miembros presentaron inscripciones condicionales para participar en el próximo Mundial, considera que se ha hecho todo lo posible para buscar una solución al desacuerdo con la FIA sobre sus planes de introducir un límite presupuestario de 45 millones el próximo año y tras su reunión en las instalaciones de Renault en Enstone, Inglaterra, ha llegado a la conclusión de que lo mejor es separarse de la Fórmula Uno y crear su propio campeonato.

En su comunicado, la FOTA indica que desde su formación el pasado mes de septiembre "los equipos han trabajado juntos y han buscado que la FIA y el propietario de los derechos comerciales (Formula One Management, dirigido por Bernie Ecclestone) participasen para desarrollar y mejorar el deporte".

"La confusión económica sin precedentes que ha azotado al mundo ha, inevitablemente, presentado numerosos desafíos a la comunidad de la Fórmula Uno. FOTA está orgullosa de haber logrado las medidas más sustanciales en la historia de nuestro deporte para reducir los costes. En particular, los equipos constructores han proporcionado ayuda a los equipos independientes, un número que probablemente no estaría en el deporte hoy en día sin las iniciativas de la FOTA".

FOTA continúa explicando que los equipos miembros "han llegado a un acuerdo sobre una reducción de costes voluntaria substancial que proporciona un modelo sostenible para el futuro. Siguiendo esos esfuerzos, todos los equipos han confirmado a la FIA y al propietario de los derechos comerciales que están dispuestos a comprometerse hasta finales de 2012. La FIA y el propietario de los derechos comerciales han hecho una campaña para dividir a la FOTA".

"Se ha ignorado el deseo de la mayoría de los equipos. Además, el propietario de los derechos comerciales ha retenido diez millones de dólares correspondientes a varios equipos desde el año 2006. A pesar de eso y el ambiente intransigente, FOTA ha buscado un compromiso genuinamente. Sin embargo, se ha hecho evidente que los equipos no pueden continuar comprometiéndose con los valores fundamentales del deporte y por ello han rechazado alterar las condiciones de sus inscripciones originales para el Campeonato Mundial de 2010".

"Estos equipos, por lo tanto, no tienen otra alternativa que comenzar los preparativos para un nuevo Campeonato que refleje los valores de sus participantes y socios. Estas series tendrán un gobierno transparente, un conjunto de normas, alentará a más participantes y escuchará los deseos de los aficionados, incluyendo la oferta de reducir los precios para los espectadores mundiales, socios y otros accionistas importantes. Los pilotos importantes, las estrellas, las marcas, los patrocinadores, los promotores y las empresas asociadas históricamente con el nivel más alto de automovilismo estarán presentes en esta nueva serie".
