Bueno yo creo que hay que esperar, sobre todo porque para ver a Pedro en las pistas es la última opción. Yo sólo por eso esperaría, no hay nada ni positivo... pero tampoco negativo, hay que darle semanas a que se vaya viendo todo. Probablemente Septiembre-Octubre sea el momento para conocer más sobre el proyecto.

En todo caso, para mí Pedro siempre lo ha tenido complicado para pilotar para Prodrive, pero bueno... es una opción.

D. Richards dijo hace unos meses que en el verano diría que podría anunciar lo que Prodrive iva hacer.....

En Silverstone (Ya era verano), dijo que no tenia ningún comentario que hacer, y que como el dijo hacer unos meses lo diria en verano, pero en el verano inglés que parace que empieza más tarde.....

Si es a juzgar por el tiempo, aquí el verano vino en abril... Desde la entrada oficial del verano, no ha hecho más que llover...

Los niños vuelven al cole a finales de este mes...

O, teniendo en cuenta el (pobre) historial de credibilidad de Richards, casi sería mejor que esperemos según salgan noticias en lugar de intentar darle sentido a lo que dice, porque yo con ese no me fiaría ni para que me de la hora...

Siento ser el típico pesimista recalcitrante, pero esas frases son las que siempre dice en las retransmisiones de Telecinco cada domingo, y aquí estamos en lo de siempre: Repsol-Honda traspasando su relación a la formula 1, los japoneses de Toyota no olvidan lo que Pedro hizó allí y le contratarán, y ahora le sumamos el equipo B de McLaren... Creo que el final sabemos todos donde está...

No es por joder pero en MQC acaba de salir que pedro ha renovado para probador con mclaren:¿ese contrato impide que vaya a otra escudería que no sea prodrive(en caso de que esté suministrada por mclaren)?

Era lo que me faltaba, Pedro renovando de probador, cuando hay asientos volando por ahí y a Ralf casi seguro que le van a dar una patada en el trasero!

Tenemos que empezar a preguntarnos si Pedro realmente quiere volver a competir en F1 o si prefiere asegurarse las finanzas para llevar a la familia de vacaciones...

F1: Prodrive-McLaren Deal Not Done Yet, Says Whitmarsh

As we move into August there is still no firm news on Prodrive’s planned entry into the World Championship next season. A deal to run customer McLarens has been on the table for months, but despite recent rumors suggesting that a positive conclusion is near, it seems that the deal has not been done. It’s not hard to imagine that McLaren’s price is a premium one, and more importantly, the team wants a long-term commitment from David Richards.

That means that Prodrive has to be able to guarantee a pretty substantial sum before the deal can proceed. Of course the clock is ticking, and we are not a little over seven months from the start of next season, and neither party can wait too long. The big question is what might happen if Richards cannot deliver, having beaten everyone else to win the FIA’s unique offer of a highly valuable franchise. We asked McLaren’s Martin Whitmarsh for his thoughts.

Q: What’s the latest situation regarding McLaren and Prodrive?

“We’re willing to do the deal with David, we’ve just got to make sure that the economic environment is appropriate. None of us, Prodrive nor McLaren, want to be involved in a program that’s not properly structured, properly funded, has proper longevity, and a reasonable chance of success. It’s got to come to a conclusion soon, because there’s quite a lot of work to be done. But we’re working hard on it.”

Q: There was talk of June, then July – it’s already been a month since Silverstone, which was supposed to be the venue for an announcement…

“In truth there’s more pressure from us to come to a conclusion because if it happens, we want to do a good job, and to do that you’ve got to put the organizational structure in place, you’ve got to manage the supply chain, and it’s something that we’ve got to get down to very soon.’

Q: But it hasn’t been signed off yet?

“It hasn’t been signed off yet, but it may come shortly! We hope it does, and it has to come shortly, because if it doesn’t then frankly the window of opportunity will have passed by for 2008. We’re happy to do it in 2009, but what we’re not willing to do is climb into a deal, however well financed it is, when it’s too late, and we’re really going to do a poor job in 2008.”

Q: Isn’t the arrangement with the FIA that it’s now or never?

“I think it is. The reality is Prodrive have an entry for 2008, and as far as I know they don’t have an entry for 2009, but nor do any other teams, incidentally. I think David knows that the option of slipping it by one year is probably not there. But it’s not for me to comment on it, it’s for Prodrive and the FIA. We’ve stated an interest and a willingness to support the team, but the team is very much a Prodrive team, it would be run by David and his affiliates, they would be responsible for the driver selection and sporting matters. That’s how should it be, we wouldn’t want to and it would be inappropriate for us to be involved in those matters. We are willing to be a technology provider and an enabling organization. We think it’s healthy for F1, and I think that’s our primary motivation.”

Q: Is it true that you want a minimum three-year arrangement to make it worth your while?

“At least, yes. Our position is we’d like to see financing in place for five years. We don’t want to gear up, because we inevitably have to recruit and put structure in place. We’re a responsible team and a responsible employer, we don’t do those things lightly, unless we think that we’ve got reasonable longevity.”

Q: Is there an actual deadline? I’m guessing that July 31 was one that has passed…

“You can guess, but we’re having those discussions with David, and I don’t think we should be trying to publicly put pressure on David or Prodrive. There is a lot of pressure. I think he and his organization want to do it, we want to do it, but neither of us will do it unless we can do it well.”

Q: And McLaren has also been looking for sponsorship on Prodrive’s behalf?

“McLaren Marketing Services is a sister company obviously, but it operates independently. McLaren Racing, which is the team that’s here racing, pays a commission to McLaren Marketing for the service it provides, and we wouldn’t envisage any different arrangement with Prodrive. That’s not a conditional part of our package, from our perspective. If David can bring the money or write the checks himself, we’re very happy. But we need to see and be confident that the money and the commitment is there.”
