tendrá seguimiento televisivo? porque si no lo tiene...

"No"

Alain Prost hails Formula E as 'new way of motor racing'

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost believes the FIA Formula E Championship is set for a prosperous future with support from major car manufacturers.

After seeing the Spark-Renault SRT_01E in action for the first time during a tyre test at the Circuit Issoire near Clermont-Ferrand, le Professeur co-team principal of the e.dams outfit, said he believed Formula E could be the ideal platform for car makers to demonstrate their electric technology, especially when the power units rules open up in season two.

The constructors are waiting for the final regulations, but if everything is correct its going to become a good platform for constructors.

The 51-time F1 race winner also backed the championships street track-only calendar.

We need to do something different. F1 and the other disciplines race on the normal race tracks, you cannot attract the same kind of people and I think that was the best way to be in the centre of the cities where the electrical cars normally are.

You dont need only to drive the car, you need to think a little bit. You need to manage the energy and this kind of thing. Its a new way of motor racing. Its going to be short to start with, but its going to get longer and longer as we go on as that is part of the challenge.

We are very optimistic when you see the technology of the batteries in the next few years, we are optimistic that it's going to get better and better. And thats also the key, we are going to show the people outside that this technology is making progress very quickly.

The test, which was performed by Michelins official tester works Porsche star Emmanuel Collard also marked the last stage in development for the Spark-Renault. The car tested for three days in dry and wet conditions, running reliably throughout.

Le Mans winner Collard, who tested F1 cars for Prost Grand Prix as well as Williams, Benetton, Tyrrell, Ligier and Arrows, was pleased by the work that was completed.

I was very impressed by the tyres, he said. They were very consistent in the dry and in the wet.

Further testing will continue before the first Formula E cars are delivered to the team headquarters at Donington Park on May 15

Free admission to fans at Donington Park pre-season testing

The FIA Formula E Championship, the worlds first fully-electric race series, has today (April 10)confirmed that all of its official pre-season tests will be held at Donington Park circuit in the UK with free admission to fans.

Beginning on July 3, the 10 Formula E teams will be given five full test days with every one open to the public free of charge, allowing fans who pre-register via the Donington Park website unprecedented access to see and hear the 200kw (270bhp) Spark-Renault SRT_01E single-seaters in action.

The remaining tests at the Leicestershire circuit will take place on July 4, 9 and 10 with the final session on August 19 three weeks before the season opener in Beijing on September 13. Teams will also have two in-season and two post-season test days with private testing strictly prohibited.

In addition to hosting all test days, Donington Park will also shortly become the new home for Formula E and its teams as construction work on its bespoke 44,000 ft² premises nears completion. The state-of-the-art headquarters catering for more than 150 staff, engineers and team personnel are due to open in early May with the first car deliveries arriving in mid-May.

Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, said: Given all 10 Formula E teams will shortly be based at Donington Park, using the circuit for all official pre-season tests was the natural choice. Donington Park has excellent facilities and with the teams located just a stones throw from the circuit it means we save on both costs and logistic emissions. It will be fascinating to see all cars running together for the first time another significant milestone for the championship and we hope by opening up all test days to the public, fans will be able to share this with us.

Christopher Tate, Managing Director of Donington Park Racing Ltd, added: Alejandro Agags vision is about to become an on-track reality, as the FIA Formula E race teams from around the world prepare to move into the hi-tech centre we have built for them here, and then to drive out onto this famous circuit. We are privileged to be able to offer Formula E a suitable combination of fabled motorsport history, an excellent test track, and a global centre of excellence for the new technology. And now the general public will be able to watch it all, from the stands and from trackside. We really cant wait for that first July test day.

Please note that spectators will need to pre-register their attendance in order to gain access to testing, although no fee will be charged. Further details on how members of the public can attend Formula E test days will be available via the Formula E (www.fiaformulae.com) and Donington Park (www.donington-park.co.uk) websites shortly.

Dario Franchitti joins Formula E TV commentary team

Four-time IndyCar champion, three-time Indianapolis 500 winner and Britains greatest motorsport export to the US Dario Franchitti is to join the host television commentary team for the FIA Formula E Championship.

Franchitti, who recently retired from racing following a glittering career, will act as co-commentator and driver pundit when the season gets underway in September alongside lead commentator Jack Nicholls. Anchoring the coverage will be presenter and pitlane reporter Nicki Shields.

In addition to presenting BBC1s Escape to the Country, The Gadget Show Live and at Goodwood Motorsport, Nicki Shields is a keen scientist with a degree in biology and a passion for technology and motorsport. Heading up the commentary box is Jack Nicholls who despite being just 24 brings with him a wealth of experience providing world commentary feeds for the FIA GT Series, FIA Formula 2 Championship, Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and Formula 1 for BBC Radio 5 Live.

To date, Formula E has signed live television deals with some of the worlds largest broadcasters including FOX Sports covering 88 territories across the globe Japans TV Asahi and ITV in the UK, with details of further rights to be announced shortly.

Technology and environmental enthusiast Robert Llewellyn, best known for playing Kryten in the UK TV sitcom Red Dwarf and presenting Scrapheap Challenge, will also present a series of technical features via the championships official YouTube channel.

Franchitti, who is one of IndyCars most decorated and legendary drivers with 31 victories and 33 poles, said: "It is no secret that I have a passion for the history and evolution of motorsports. To be on the team that will now cover an exciting new racing category is a great honour and I can't wait to see how the Formula E cars perform when the lights go out in Beijing.

Ali Russell, Marketing Director, added: Were delighted to be unveiling our host TV commentary team today which we believe ensures fans have the complete range of expertise to guide them through the championship from scientists and technology experts to experienced motorsport commentators and legendary drivers.

The three will provide English language commentary, news and in-depth analysis for all 10 Formula E races which will be offered to rights holders in addition to the comprehensive coverage produced by host broadcaster Aurora Media Worldwide (AMW).

Alguersuari, Bird join Formula E grid with Virgin

Virgin has recruited ex-Toro Rosso Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari and 2013 GP2 runner-up Sam Bird as its drivers for the inaugural Formula E season.

The deal marks 24-year-old Spaniard Alguersuari's return to racing nearly three years after he lost his grand prix seat.

His only outings since then have been F1 tyre testing for Pirelli and in karting.

"Not racing a single-seater [since F1] is not going to affect me at all," he told AUTOSPORT.

"The most important thing is time with the Formula E car. Once we're in Beijing, I don't think I'll be a way off. I don't feel like I'm an old man and I think I've learned a lot in my career."

Alguersuari said he had resisted other opportunities to race again after F1 because he did not think they offered suitably professional environments - something he is certain Virgin and FE will provide.

"I turned down other things in GTs and other series because of external factors. I was the first one who wanted to go racing, but big opportunities like this are very few in professional racing," he said.

"I decided to go with Virgin because I think they have the potential to develop a good car, to provide me with good material to win the championship. They are a big company, they always innovate."

Bird, a former Mercedes F1 reserve, will dovetail the FE drive with his sportscar commitments with Starworks in United SportsCar and AF Corse in the World Endurance Championship.

"It's turned from being quite a difficult beginning into a very, very promising year," he said.

"Every child's dream is to race in Formula 1, but I'm looking at other things currently and I have no regrets - I'm very happy with what I'm doing. It's not totally conventional and it's really exciting."

The Briton said he was thrilled to have a chance to be part of Formula E at its inception.

"It's a very attractive series, and it's the future," said Bird. "With the current state of affairs globally, I think motorsport has to be seen to be going green and this is taking it to new levels. It's a great thing to be a part of."

Teams receive first delivery of Formula E race cars

The 10 teams competing in the new FIA Formula E Championship received their first batch of Spark-Renault SRT_01E race cars today (May 15), at the same time as the doors to their new state-of-the-art facilities were officially opened.

With both projects delivered precisely to schedule, each team received one fully-electric single-seater which has been designed and built by Spark Racing Technology, together with a consortium of the leading names in motorsport including McLaren, Williams, Dallara, Renault and Michelin.

Meanwhile their new 44,000ft² bespoke premises has taken 14 weeks to build and will house the teams for at least the next three years as well as provide offices, stores and workshops for Formula Es own operational staff a total of more than 150 people.

Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, and Kevin Wheatcroft, owner and chairman of Donington Park, led the proceedings which were attended by more than 250 guests including newly announced Virgin Racing drivers Sam Bird and Jaime Alguersuari, e.dams co-team manager Alain Prost, regional members of parliament, the Chief Executive of North West Leicestershire Council, the Board of the Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP), local dignities, partners and members of the press.

Alejandro Agag said: Today marks a very significant milestone in the genesis of the FIA Formula E Championship. In September 2013 we launched this incredible fully-electric 150mph car and after more than 3,000km of rigorous testing were delighted to be now handing them over to our 10 teams. My thanks go to Frédéric Vasseur and his team at Spark Racing Technology for making this happen and all our car partners McLaren, Williams, Dallara, Renault and Michelin involved in its development.

Today we also officially welcome our teams into their new bespoke facilities, built to the latest environmental and sustainable construction standards. The Donington Park team, led by Kevin Wheatcroft and Christopher Tate, together with the North West Leicestershire Council, the Leicestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and the Growing Places Fund should all be immensely proud of what they have achieved in such a short space of time. Were delighted with our new operational headquarters and very pleased to be a part of burgeoning British motorsport industry.

Formula E is the FIAs new fully-electric single-seater championship designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans, whilst accelerating the interest in electric vehicles and promoting sustainability. Racing entirely on temporary city-centre race tracks, it uses cars capable of speeds in excess of 150mph (225kph). Its 10 teams feature some of the leading international names in motorsport including Alain Prost and Michael Andretti, along with high-profile environmental supporters including Sir Richard Branson and Leonardo DiCaprio. To date, four of the 20 drivers have been announced with Lucas di Grassi, Daniel Abt, Sam Bird and Jaime Alguersuari.

Kevin Wheatcroft, Chairman of Donington Park Racing Ltd added: I would like to pass on my congratulations to the working group from Formula E, the construction companies and my staff here at Donington Park, who have made all this happen in just 14 weeks since construction started. Its a proud day for everyone associated with Donington Park, now back at the heart of the British motorsport industry. We look forward to welcoming 150 highly trained specialist engineers who will be working here on site within the Formula E setup. We are also looking forward to all the other developments and improvements that are taking place; its certainly a very exciting time ahead for Donington Park.

Donington Park will also provide the location for all Formula E pre-season testing beginning on July 3 with all five dates open free of charge to the public. The next delivery of Formula E cars arrives on June 16 with each team receiving their allocated four cars by July 15. The first of 10 city-centre races takes place in Beijing on September 13.

Formula Es commercial aspects will continue to operate out of its London offices.

The event also saw Alejandro Agag presented with a fully-electric ZOE car by Technical Partner Renault.
