Alguersuari Q&A: Im very excited to be a part of this project

London|16 May 14Earlier this week Jaime Alguersuari was confirmed as one of Virgin Racings two drivers for the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship. We caught up with the Spanish ex-Formula 1 driver to get his thoughts on his new challenge.

How does it feel to be part of the Formula E championship?
Im very happy. I think this project is going very fun. Im very excited to be a part of something I feel is going to be the future of motorsport. Im very lucky to be part of this project and Im very proud of it. Im very much looking forward to the first race but also to testing the car at the Donington race track. The car looks very cool and very new and I cant wait to test the car. I think the championship is going to be mega and is going to surprise all of us drivers. Its going to be great.

What are your expectations of the car?

I dont expect to drive it in the same way as a Formula 1 car because I think there are so many different things that are required. First of all there is the approach to the weekend with all the running on the same day so you have to take care of everything. The technology is very important because there isnt a huge amount of downforce and not that much mechanical grip either so we have to bear in mind that its going to be a fantastic show for everybody. I know Im going to enjoy driving this, but its clear that we have to concentrate on those aspects we have no experience from in the past, but there is plenty of testing in Donington. But in the end for a driver a car is just a car with a steering wheel and two pedals.

What experience do you have of electric vehicles?
None, I have never driven an electric car. But from what I can see they are very futuristic with very high technology. A racing car has to be cool and in the videos Ive seen the car looks fantastic. Something you can expect from electric cars is that all the power is at the bottom with not so much at the top, but that is what it is.

It must be a huge honour to drive for a brand as prestigious as Virgin?
For sure. One of the things that made me excited to work with them was their ambition and attitude towards motorsport. They want to have a winning team and one of the reasons I have come to Formula E is that I want to win the championship. Its been many years now that I havent raced anything at all just tyre testing in Formula 1. And that has been great but it was clear that I couldnt get back into Formula 1 for economic reasons so Ive decided to do this and Im really, really hungry to win and be competitive again and thats why I got involved with the company the approach they have, the work ethic its given me a lot of confidence. Everyone is young and have a lot of ideas and I really like the atmosphere and thats one of the reasons I wanted to make sure I got the drive with them.

You have a competitive team-mate in Sam Bird. Do you think this is a sign of how strong all the driver line-ups are going to be?
Yes and I think thats great. I think it would be hard to get a better driver. I think he has shown everyone that hes a great driver because he has done in lots of racing series. I think we are going to push each other very hard and hopefully have a one-two finish at the end of the year.

One unique aspect of Formula E is Fan Boost. You have 160,000 Twitter followers, how are you going to get them to all vote for you?
I dont know! Ive never thought about this in the past. Its very new for everyone and we need to try different things and see what works. Im sure its a great tool, Im not sure how to use it, but Im sure Ill get some help.

Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna sign for Mahindra Racing

Mahindra Racing has today announced that Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna will join the team for the inaugural season of the FIA Formula E Championship.
The duo will represent Mahindra when they line-up on the grid at the start of the worlds first fully-electric racing series in Beijing on September 13 2014. Neither Chandhok nor Senna are strangers to the international racing scene, having both competed in Formula One. Representing the only Indian team in Formula E, Chennai-born Chandhok and Brazilian Senna bring with them a strong working relationship, having already raced as team-mates previously in their careers.
S P Shukla, Chairman of Mahindra Racing, said: Both Karun and Bruno come with very strong racing pedigrees and have successfully competed in a variety of racing series over the past few years. The entire team looks forward to working with both of them to optimise the performance of our racing car over the next few months of testing before the start of racing in September this year.
Mahindra Racing Team Principal Dilbagh Gill said: Karun and Bruno both represent the perfect balance between experience and youthful enthusiasm for this truly ground breaking championship. I am confident they will do their best to represent Mahindra on the world stage and the entire team is aiming for top results from the start of the championship.
Karun Chandhok, 30, said: Im very excited to be a part of the Mahindra Racing line-up. The team are showing a lot of commitment to Formula E and its very encouraging to see the support of senior members of the group to this programme. To be a part of the only Indian team in this series is a real honour for me. It's also going to be a nice reunion for me with Bruno again. He's one of my closest friends from the racing world; we respect each other and work well together which will be good for the development of the team. The city races are going to be a great spectacle and the quality of teams and drivers should ensure some fantastic racing.
Bruno Senna, also 30, added: Im very proud to be joining Mahindra Racing. There is a real ambition within the team to be leaders in Formula E from the start. Its also an exciting prospect to be part of such a revolutionary championship from the beginning. There will be a lot to learn very quickly, both for the teams and drivers in terms of technology and driving styles and for race fans as Formula E will popularise a new type of motorsport across the world. Of course, I already have a great relationship with Karun which will help us work together and move the team forward very quickly.
Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, added: Im delighted to welcome Karun and Bruno to the FIA Formula E Championship, both of which Ive known for some time. They are very talented drivers who will be great assets to Mahindra Racing and add to our growing line-up of top drivers.
To date, six of the 20 Formula E drivers (two per team) have been confirmed with Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt signing for Audi Sport ABT, in addition to Jaime Alguersuari and Sam Bird, who join Virgin Racing.
Formula E is the FIAs new fully-electric single-seater championship designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans, whilst accelerating the interest in electric vehicles and promoting sustainability. Racing entirely on temporary city-centre race tracks, it uses cars capable of speeds in excess of 150mph (225kph). The first of 10 races takes place in Beijing around the iconic Olympic Birds Nest Stadium with the season finale taking place in London on June 27.

Esto suena muy bien, cada dia mas. Precisamente novatos, no son.

Y si, alguno podra pensar que son pilotos que no quiere nadie. Yo no lo veo asi.

Mas, aun, en Bruno Senna.

Franck Montagny signs for Andretti Formula E Team

US Formula E team Andretti Autosport has today announced it has signed Frenchman Franck Montagny to compete in the inaugural all-electric FIA Formula E Championship. With a diverse and extensive racing resume, Montagny becomes the first driver announced for Michael Andretti's two-car Formula E assault.
Although both are new to Formula E for its debut season, the relationship between Andretti and Montagny dates back to 2008 when Montagny competed in the ALMS series with Andretti Autosport, he then returned to the team in 2009 for the IndyCar Series and again for the 2014 Grand Prix of Indianapolis.
"It is a great honour to be racing again with Andretti Autosport and Michael Andretti." said Montagny. "I worked a great deal with the team in 2008 and 2009, and again this year, and working together on this new electric challenge will be exciting. I am convinced that this new fully-electric technology in the automotive industry will become a very important characteristic of our day-to-day lives in the future, and this high-level racing competition will very quickly bring new technical developments just as Formula One did in the past for everyday automobiles."
In addition to his resume with Andretti Autosport, Montagny boasts 12 starts at the historic Le Mans 24 with four-podium finishes, in addition to five years of Formula One experience with seven grands prix starts
Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, added: Were delighted to welcome Franck Montagny to the FIA Formula E Championship. Franck becomes our seventh driver to join the series alongside Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi at Audi Sport Abt, Jaime Alguersuari and Sam Bird at Virgin Racing and Karun Chandhok and Bruno Senna at Mahindra Racing with plenty more top-level drivers still to be announced.

Teams complete first successful shakedown at Donington Park

Teams competing in the all-electric FIA Formula E Championship got their first chance to familiarise themselves with their Spark-Renault SRT_01E cars today during a shakedown session at Donington Park.

The teams completed a full-day of systems checks at the Leicestershire track in wet conditions using a modified configuration of the National Circuit, which included an additional chicane on the main straight.

The seven confirmed drivers Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi (Abt), Sam Bird and Jaime Alguersuari (Virgin Racing), Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok (Mahindra Racing) and Franck Montagny (Andretti Autosport) were all in attendance together with several new drivers under evaluation.

Rob Arnott, Team Manager at Andretti Autosport, said: The car has run exceptionally well for us, almost like clockwork. Weve had virtually no issues which say a lot for a car straight out of the box and Franck [Montagny] has been really surprised with the car and its balance, especially in the wet. I was concerned the tyres wouldnt be able to cope being a one-stop-shop so to speak but they are very impressive and a good compound. Tomorrow well debrief and analysis the data but its apparent battery management is going to be key.

Dilbagh Gill, Team Principal at Mahindra, said: Weve had a few teething issues today but overall its been very positive. The drivers have enjoyed it and Bruno [Senna] had a big smile on his face the first time he got out of the car. We have a great team using the experience of the successful Carlin outfit so now we need to convert them from petrol heads to spark heads!

Nicolas Mauduit, Team Manager at Venturi Automobiles, said: Overall its been a very good day learning the car and running a mixture of low and medium power setups. Well go away now and look over the data and get to grips with the car better as well as look in more detail about the regeneration system and improving battery life.

Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, added: Today has been a proud moment for everyone involved in the FIA Formula E Championship. To have the teams running their cars for the first time is very special to see - and hear - and its fantastic to watch the championship becoming a reality. This is the beginning of a new era of motorsport.

The first official Formula E test takes place on July 3 2014 with free access to members of the the public. Spectators will need to pre-register their attendance in order to gain access. For further details and to register visit http://www.donington-park.co.uk/events/formula-e-testing/.

Donington capadisimo.

Jarno Trulli to race in Formula E with own TrulliGP outfit

Italy|18 Jun 14Formula One race winner Jarno Trulli today announced he is to form and manage a new team for the FIA Formula E Championship entitled TrulliGP Formula E Team with which he will race in the unique all-electric series. The 39-year-old Italian has taken over the entry of Drayson Racing.

Following approval from the FIA, TrulliGP has been granted the 10th team entry for the Formula E Championship, following the withdrawal of Drayson Racing. Drayson Technologies will be entering into a supply and sponsorship arrangement with TrulliGP to be the squads principal technology partner. As part of this, TrulliGP will begin work on Draysons wireless charging technology which offers the potential to free electric vehicles from the constraints of cable-based charging.

Jarno Trulli said: I am pleased that the FIA selected TrulliGP to be part of the FIA Formula E Championship. Having gained fantastic experience as a driver in Formula 1, my involvement in the FIA Formula E Championship will certainly be a new challenge, not only as a driver but also as a team owner. Competing at the highest level of performance with a clean energy car with the support of Drayson Technologies makes this challenge even more exciting. I am very pleased to be a pioneer of this new Formula E project.

Trulli becomes the eighth driver to sign for Formula E alongside Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi at Audi Sport Abt, Sam Bird and Jaime Alguersuari at Virgin Racing, Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok at Mahindra Racing and Franck Montagny at Andretti Autosport.

Lord Drayson, CEO of Drayson Technologies, said: I am delighted to be working with such a world-class team of motorsport professionals, led by Jarno. I am sure that the combination of the Trulli teams motorsport knowhow and the Drayson EV technology expertise will be a winning one from the start. Our ambition is to supply all the teams with wireless charging and we are delighted that TrulliGP is the first team to adopt this exciting technology.

Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag added: Were delighted to welcome Jarno to the FIA Formula E Championship as both a team manager and a driver. Drayson very much remains a part of the Formula E family focusing on developing their wireless charging technology which they couldnt have done running as a team. This ground-breaking technology has the potential to benefit not just the TrulliGP team but the entire championship and of course the future of electric road cars.
