Jose Maria Lopez's place on the Formula One grid for 2010 could be confirmed within the next 24 hours, but not with USF1 as originally thought as rumours linking him to fellow newcomer Campos Meta intensify.

The Argentine was the subject of the last 'good news' to emerge from USF1's Carolina headquarters and, with increasing speculation that the Peter Windsor/Ken Anderson operation is faltering in its bid to join the motorsport elite, now appears set to take his valuable backing - estimated at $8m - to its Spanish rival. The driver's manager, Felipe McGough, confirmed that a deal could be struck as early as tomorrow [Thursday] - and could even bring the two struggling teams together.

We had six hours of meetings with the investors of the USF1 and the new owners of the Campos Meta team, McGough told Spanish radio station Cadena 3 Cordoba, We discussed the possibility of a merger but, most important, is that, whatever the outcome, Jose Maria is included in the project.

McGough's suggestion that the two F1 hopefuls could bring their operations together was underlined by a subsequent referral to YouTube founder Chad Hurley in an interview he gave to Argentina's Diario Hoy newspaper. Hurley was apparently represented at the meetings by advisor Parris Mullins, following suggestions that he too was poised to switch his allegiance from USF1 to Campos Meta ahead of the 2010 season.

Although the clock is running against us and anxiety is great, I think that, after the meetings, the outlook for Lopez is clearer, McGough added, "Both Chad Hurley and [new sole Campos Meta owner] Jose Carabante talked for several hours to find a solution to the question of the budget of both teams. For us, this union is very important for the possibility that Lopez can run.

"We are doing everything possible and never took a false step. The economic difficulties encountered at USF1 mean that we must accept that their cars will not be ready for Bahrain. We moved quickly with FOM and, with the help of Bernie Ecclestone, this new possibility has appeared."

While Bruno Senna remains in possession of a Campos Meta contract, developments in Lopez's bid to graduate to F1 after several seasons racing in the national touring car series add another name to the list of potential team-mates which already contains the likes of Karun Chandhok and reigning Renault World Series champion Bertrand Baguette.

Chandhok is also among those being connected to the Stefan GP team currently waiting in the wings for an opportunity to join the field in Bahrain, but could be pushed out by the return of 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve [see story here], while Baguette has admitted that he is not confident of securing the second seat at the Spanish-based Campos Meta operation after finding himself in a Catch 22 situation..

F1 is my goal, the Belgian, who tested with both Renault and Sauber in December, told dhnet.be, There remains a small chance to be on the grid of the first GP, but my budget is not enough [for the whole season]. The sponsors want a contract before they help me but, to have a contract, you need money. There are possibilities in the Superleague, IRL and GP2, but nothing is decided yet."

Kolles confident Campos will be ready

Campos Meta team principal Colin Kolles is confident that his outfit will be ready for the start of the season, despite the recent struggles it has faced.

Kolles has been drafted in after a shareholding takeover by Jose Ramon Carabante, and he has the task of getting the team on track in just a fortnight.

And although time is tight, Kolles is upbeat that the staff he has put in place will ensure the Dallara-built car is ready in time for the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.

"It is very tough, but we will make it - because I never give up," Kolles told AUTOSPORT. "We will have the cars in Bahrain and we will be running. This in itself will be pretty much a big achievement."

Former BAR and Red Bull Racing technical chief Geoff Willis is helping the team with its preparations for 2010, and AUTOSPORT understands that his current consultancy role could be turned into a full-time appointment.

Kolles has said that he expects to make an announcement about the team's driver line-up within the next week - with sources suggesting that Bruno Senna's deal at the outfit is no longer guaranteed. This week's AUTOSPORT cites sources suggesting that Senna has been asked to bring sponsorship money to the outfit to keep hold of his place.

Karun Chandhok has been strongly linked with a deal there, while US F1's Jose Maria Lopez has also been in talks with Campos too, according to his manager.

The future of Campos founder Adrian Campos is also unclear. AUTOSPORT understands he has been offered a role at the team, but there is no guarantee a deal will happen.

Campos told AUTOSORT: "I did what I had to do for the best of the team that was the most important thing for me."

Un tipo que de buenas a primeras cuando entra en un corral ajeno larga lo que dice este "chuleta" tiene dos lecturas a priori:

1.- No tiene el mas minimo respeto por los que ya estan y el trabajo que han intentado llevar a cabo. Es una chuleria y una falta total de respeto. No puede saber si lo que se encuentra él lo podria haber hecho mejor con los medios disponibles.

2.- Mas prepotencia porque si estan buscando $$$ que va a pensar cualquier inversor al leer que lo que hay no vale para nada y que tienen que empezar de cero? casi nadie apuesta a caballo perdedor, solo los tramposos.

Por lo tanto para mi este personaje empieza con mal pie.

Habria sido mucho mas elegante con frases como:

Se ha hecho un gran trabajo con los recursos disponibles pero aún hay muchos detalles por pulir...
Existe aun un gran potencial por descubrir....
Hace falta la conjuncion de los esfuerzos....

Aunque exista esa posibilidad, que pretende? salvar su buen nombre diciendo que ha heredado un equipo sin estructura y sin medios? Haber que puede demostrar con cuatro cañas, y que respeto infunde en los pocos profesionales contrastados (que los hay) que ya trabajan en el equipo? Para mi solo se pone la tirita antes de cortarse.

Sin ánimos de malmeter ni de crear polémica, pero Adrián Campos no es que tenga una trayectoria mejor en la F1, y sin embargo le concedemos bastante importancia a lo que dice sobre el equipo.

Que conste que este tipo me parece un prepotente, llegar al equipo y presentarse como el Mesías que salvará al equipo me parece de un gusto lamentable. Si consigue llevar el equipo a Bahrein, valoraré su trabajo, pero un poco de modestia de inicio no está de más.

Creo que hay que tomarse sus palabras en serio, porque aunque seguro que exagera los hechos, estoy seguro que las instalaciones no estaban todo lo bien que deberían.

Yo tampoco encuentro correcta su actitud... pero creo que sus palabras son bastante inadecuadas y que ha pecado de ingenuo... tanto, tanto que me cuesta creerlo... que al igual que Monza2001 también pienso que le han dado carta blanca para "dar canya"... según el desenlace del equipo veremos si la tenía o no... pero hay que ser demasiado ceporro si Kolles está ahí es porque "al tio de los duros" (inversor) le ha interesado y por tanto lo ha metido porque rechaza o no le gusta el trabajo hecho hasta ahora.

También dije que normalmente la culpa "se la echan al muerto"... al tiempo!!!

Por otra parte... Mucho Kolles, mucho Volkswagen, muchos inversores, mucho inversor secreto, Corleone en la sombra, Texeira, Campos dentro o fuera o Carabantes.... Todo eso me parece PERFECTO!!! pero estamos a jueves!!!! de otra semana !!! (otra más) y seguimos IGUAL!!! (o siguen sin hacer nada público)

Yo he perdido la ilusión por Campos Meta, ya no es que de español tuviera poco (con el plan original) es que ahora entre tanto nuevo socio, grupos inversores, con Campos que no se sabe si tiene o no tiene, si pinta o no pinta... Como diría Groucho Marx... "la parte contratante de la primera parte será considerada como la parte contratante de la primera parte" Ya no es por qué o quien vaya a tener el control ni bajo que nacionalidad... es que el descontrol y el caos que transmiten es digno de una peli de Kubric

A este paso no llegamos a Bahrein... 2011!!!!
