¿Quién es el mejor piloto de todos los tiempos? Opciones

Creo que esta es una pregunta que no tiene respuesta. La razón:
Se estan comparando pilotos en diferentes circunstancias. Para obtener respuesta habria que juntarlos a todos con el mismo coche y epoca y ver que hacen (Cosa imposible, por lo menos en el mundo de los mortales). Quien sabe a lo mejor en el cielo hacen grandes premios.

Ah, no, por ahí ya paso. Comparar a Hill con Schumacher o uno de los grandes sí que no...
Hill habrá sido todo lo que queráis, un gentleman, un tipo cojonudo, un gran piloto pero de ahí a compararlo con los otros que se han nombrado yo no me lo creo.

Aún el otro día estuve viendo su temporada del 92 y ERIC VAN DE POELE se sobraba para sacarle casi un segundo de media en los entrenos. Y a esas alturas Hill ya era probador de Williams, vamos que no era la primera vez que se subía a un F1. Mientras Schumacher la 2ª que probaba un F1 hace el 7º mejor tiempo en los entrenos de Spa con el Jordan 7up dejando a su compañero a más de 1/2 segundo. Ni punto de comparación...

Hill tanía sus días buenos y a mí me impresionó de veras alguna que otra vez, por ejemplo, en Adelaida 94 estuvo increíble hasta que Schumacher se salió, incluso en la carrera anterior estuvo muy bien... Pero tenía demasiados días malos.

Y también estoy de acuerdo con Jordan en que Senna casi siempre tuvo un gran coche para hacer poles. También tengo claro que si no hubiera pasado nada en Imola 94, Schumacher poco iba a poder hacer con Senna en Williams y Schumacher en Benetton o Ferrari.

Encontré esta entrevista del 98 a Berger en el foro de Atlas F1 que habla bastante de estos temas. No tengo tiempo para traducirla, que vienen los exámenes ahí:

Oh he was fast.And very few drivers could drive as fast as he could with an understeering car.His success shows that he was a very special driver.


A COUPLE OF TIMES HE PUT IT OVER SENNA IN QUALIFYING,SO HE COULD TURN IT UP WHEN HE WANTED TO....

No,no.At magny Cours I think,or perhaps at Le Castellet,he was usually a little faster.
But at other races I really cant think of many occasions where he was in front of ayrton.

WHAT ABOUT PROST THE PERSON,DID YOU RESPECT HIM?

Yes,I have a lot of respect for him,He nice a polite and serious man.



WAS SENNA THE GREATEST DRIVER OF ALL TIME?

Yes,I would put senna at the top,then prost and lauda.
Because at the end of the day,they had a similar way,a similar style.
They were not just racing,they had this way of calculating a race.
I dont know about guys like jim clark of jochen rindt,so its difficult to say.
But of all the people i raced against senna was far and away the best.


HOW DID HE CONJURE SUCH SPEED

It wasnt just a question of speed.it was the whole package.Sometimes others were very fast in a given machine
sometimes others were very fast over a few laps,sometimes i was faster than ayrton over a few laps.
But as a package he was unbeleiveable.He had fantastic natural speed.
Fantastic self discipline,fantastic physical condition.
And far and away the best concentration of all of us.He could concentrate better than anyone else,and he knew
exactly how to setup his car for his driving style.

WHAT WAS HIS DRIVING STYLE.

Actually his driving style didnt exist.He didnt really have one.
At the end of the day when it was time for qualifying,he tailored to the problems of his car,and he'd put in on pole.

DID HE HAVE TO PSYCHE HIMSELF UP FOR A QUALIFYING LAP?

No,I dont think so.Whatever he had to do he just went out and did.Go back to 92-93 when the williams was 1 whole second quicker than the mclaren
Even though his car was 1 second slower,that second didnt exist for him.For him the only thing that really existed was pole position.
And in the end he could compensate for that second.Other drivers would say "oktoday the best position i can hope for is 3rd because 1st and 2nd are for williams and we have no chance of beating them". But that way of thinking didnt exist for him.

MICHAEL SCHUMACHER

HOW DOES MICHAEL SCHUMACHER RATE AGAINST SENNA?

Okay,I would put schumacher very close to ayrton in terms of his actual sporting performance.
But the reason why he can never be better than ayrton is that the charisma of ayrton was something special too
Thats just something you were born with or not born with.Ayrton was born with it,michael want.


ON THE TRACK YOU WOULD SAY SCHUEY IS SENNA'S EQUAL?

Yes...except schumacher is more often involved in controversies
On the track ayrton would fight like mad.He was magic,but michael on top of all that ability,does all this dodging of the regulations
Otherwise I would say hes on the same level as ayrton.


DID YOU GET ON WITH SCHUMACHER?

In the beginning no,but now yes.I think hes a good guy.Hes very focused on his job
Hes quite clever for his age.I dont know about intelligent,but i think hes not stupid.I definitely dont think the guy is stupid.

DO YOU THINK HE CAN BEAT FANGIOS RECORD OF 5 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Yes i think he has the talent

DAMON HILL

WHAT ARE YOU IMPRESSIONS OF HILL.

I respect him a lot because i have always appreciated his gentlemanly style.
But i think hes very up and down in terms of performance.
In some races he can deliver and unbeleiveable performance,in some hes normal,and in others hes really bad.


IS THAT A MOTIVATION THING?

I have no idea,I dont really know him well enough to answer that.But you know he was in the best car for 2 years
Actually I think he should of been world champion twice.....

IN 95 AS WELL A 96?

Yes,he was driving the best car.Mind you the year before that,in 94 it was michaels mistake or michaels fault that Damon wasnt champion.
But damon was always a gentleman.

Is he still Keen?

From the outside you get the feeling his time has gone,but he still doesnt want to accept it.

WERE YOU FASTER THAN DAMON HILL?

Now that is something you can never ask a racing driver.Its something you can never really measure,and even I dont know.


WAS HE A WORTHY CHAMPION?

Everyone who becomes world champion is something special.
Being in the right car is a big help.but some guys can be champion in any car.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF JV?

Jacques strength,I think is his head,I think he has good speed but above all hes very strong in the head.
Hes cool,I like him,He has charisma.

WHY DOES HE STRUGGLE IN THE WET?

Ah,hes not used to it.He came from indy car where they dont race in he wet.
So I think its a case of him having started behind the other guyswhich means he doesnt like it.
And if you dont like it,you no good at it. But ive seen jacques do some laps in the wet that werent too bad.

DO YOU THINK JV CAN WIN ANOTHER WORLD TITLE?

Hes young so he still has a future in front of him.
But at the moment michael schumacher is so strong that for the next few years he going to be very very difficult to beat. "
