'.. i really felt very cross inthe race and my anger was directed at ayrton senna, the 3x wdc, and i will tell you why....i was quicker but even though he was slower than me he chose to play around ...i did not expect it from a three times wdc and it was not necessary'. schumacher spoke these words at the time and was perhaps not aware that senna drove like that for a reason. ' during the early stages of the race ', senna said ,'my car suffered a serious and intermittent engine cut-out. the effect of this was totally unpredictable and could occur four or five times on one lap and or not at all on the next. at times the cut-out was so bad that it felt as if i had applied the brakes. i continued with this problem, trying to cover it in the hope that it would eventually go away'. senna had already waved to schumacher, signalling 'i'm in trouble", waved while he 'waited for the the cut-out to go away. i raised my arm to warn drivers behind of my problem'. A.HENRY/AUTOCOURSE '...almost from the start senna was in trouble, the honda engine cutting out intermittently, which allowed schumacher even closer. by lap 6 the wdc was collecting a huge gaggle of cars behind him, but thanks to adopting some rather creative inlines through the infield section, he ensured that schumacher was unable to find a way past.....a few laps of this treatment left schumacher feeling pretty annoyed about senna's tactics and it was clear from his remarks at the racepressconference that he tought ayrton was simply messing about, holding him up on the twisty bits and then blasting away on the straights...' senna retired lap 16 '....he (senna) then stormed off from the circuit without making any comment, later telephoning to suggest that it would be perhaps a good idea to make a statement. this proved to be a case of closing the stable door after the horse had bolted as, by then schumacher-who understandably hadn't had all the facts at his disposal- had torn him (senna) of astrip on worldwide. 'i got the feeling he was playing with us',schumacher had said firmly. i don't know what this game was , but it wasn't a nice one. for a three-times wdc it is not necessary to do something like this'. once that remark had been made, the truth couldn't overtake the lie....' C.HILTON /MICHEAL SCHUMACHER '..schumacher might have been announcing 'i fear no man, fear no reputation, i am what i am'... ...another theory, no less intriguing. schumacher perhaps sensed that one day he would have to match and then surpass senna, and this would partly physical, partly psychological. he could not afford senna to out-psyche him ( as senna had outpsyched a generation of opponenets) and the sooner he announced that the better...' french gp '92 C.HILTON /MICHEAL SCHUMACHER '..schumacher tried the inside and punted senna. senna: '..schumacher came and hit me from behind...i think he totally misjudged his speed and his braking point for that corner... schumacher:'...it was my fault. there was nothing i could do....' schumacher: '...there was some worry from the press that there would be problems between senna and i following our crash at magny cours ..senna and i get on far better now than before the incident and i have learned a lot since then...' between british and german gp, testing at hockenheim '92. C.HILTON /MICHEAL SCHUMACHER senna felt schumacher baulked him atone point, schumacher felt senna had baulked HIM at another point. senna journeyed to the bennetn pit and 'grabbed me by the collar-probably to give me a little message'. a couple of mac mechanics, sensing trouble, followed senna and dragged him off. - C L I C K - schumacher'...it was a simple misunderstnding on the circuit,in fact it happened twce. once it was his misunderstanding and once it was mine. afterwards he was very angry and he came to me and i was very angry too, but after a bit of disagreement-it was almost a fight but not quite- we were able to talk and sort it out. in my hearth and mind, there is no problem between us anymore. 'it all started atfer brasil, really, and i was glad that after scrapping again we had time to sit down together abnd talk about it... people have suggested all sorts of things about my relationship with ayrton simply because he made impression on me when i was younger. that of course when i went to a kart race in belgium where i saw him in action and he was really very impressive, but it's not true in any way that i then said i wanted to follow his career and emulate him or anything like that...' Hala, subjetividad total ! |
