RONNIE PETERSON

PARTE 10

Other Races.

Gelleråsen 17:th of August 1969

Ronnie first win the F3 race and then does an extra race in a Lola T70! The reason was that Jo Bonnier wasn´t there but the car was and the team asked Ronnie if he wanted to drive and he accepted. After just a few laps Ronnie shows that he knows how to drive such a car too and takes pole! In the race he takes the start and pulls away! After six laps the Englishman Brian Redman moves up to second place and starts to hunt Ronnie. He needs just a few laps to catch Ronnie and passes him quite easily. After half race distance David Piper is closing up to Ronnie aswell and starts to put pressure on Ronnie. He´s driving faster then and they are both taking time of the leading Brian. With just 4 laps to go Piper passes Ronnie at the hairpin. He tries to catch Brian, but it´s too late. Brian Redman winns and sets a new fastest lap time of 1.17.4. David Piper ends second and Ronnie third. Ronnie steps out and nearly colapses The heat in the car was incredible, he was normally used to drive with open wheels.
Ronnie in the lead

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1971:
Buenos Aires 1000km - January
Siffert/Bell Porsche wins, Rodrigues/Oliver Porsche second and Sommelen/Galli Alfa Romeo T33/3 third

Ronnie was promised a ride in a works-Ferrari, but when he arrived they had no car aviable for him. He could drive a 2 litre Lola with Jorge Cupiero instead. In the race Ronnie was in 5:th place when he punkured at top speed on the straight! The car was airborn at 270 km/h! He ended up 300m off the road - unhurt!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Martini Trophy Silverstone - 5:th of June 1971
Hezemans Chevron wins, Ronnie Lola second and John Lepp Chevron third

Ronnie got a phonecall in the morning of the race from his friend Jo Bonnier. He told him to go to Silverstone to race sportscars 2 liters. Ronnie got there, but he could not do any testrun, just rolling on to the grid!

He even had to start last 10 meters after the field and with 10 seconds+. He had never run this car before but a race is a race. Ronnie drove well and after 40 laps he was 4:th.

In the second heat he should start in the front row, but the startengine was not working so he had to start from the pits! But now Ronnie was warm and he drove even better. After one lap he was 4:th, and after the second lap he was second and after the third lap he was leading!!!

But Toine Hezemans had won the first heat over Ronnie with 30 seconds so he just looked after the time. Eventhough Ronnie won the second heat he was second overall.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Efter Englands GP-71:
6 hours on Watkins Glen USA
Ronnie/De Adamich Alfa Romeo T33/3 wins, Siffert/Van Lennep Porsche second and Attwood/Bell Porsche third

Ronnies first drive ever in an Alfa Romeo T33/3. Ronnie and Andrea de Adamich trained for six hours before the race! Ronnie was worried that the car would be finnished even before the race. They took a gamble and put on "intermediats" but it worked out fine, becouse it came a little rain after two hours. Then Ronnie could go up into the lead and ceep it to the end. This ment that Alfa Romeo came second in the championship, and they wanted to sign Ronnie for next year. -We´ll see! Ronnie said, he got an offer from Ferrari too...
