1972 - The struggling season!

Gran Premio de la Republica Argentina 23:rd of January 1972, Buenos Aires

Reutemann on pole before Stewart. Fastest Lap: Stewart 1.13.66 Leaders: Stewart 1-95.

Jackie Stewart Tyrell wins, Denny Hulme Mclaren second, Jacky Ickx Ferrari third and Ronnie Peterson March 6:th.


South African Grand Prix 4:th of March 1972, Kyalami

Stewart on pole before Regazzoni and Fittipaldi. Fastest Lap: Hailwood 1.18.9 Leaders: Hulme 1, 57-79; Stewart 2-44; Fittipaldi 45-56.

Denny Hulme McLaren wins, Emerson Fittipaldi Lotus second, Peter Revson third and Ronnie March 5:th.


Gran Premio de Espana 1:st of May 1971, Jarama

Ickx on pole before Hulme and Fittipaldi. Fastest Lap: Ickx 1.21.01 Leaders: Hulme 1-4; Stewart 5-8; Fittipaldi 9-90.

Fittipaldi Lotus wins, Jacky Ickx Ferrari second and Clay Regazzoni Ferrari third.

Ronnie had problems with his gear-changing-mekanism. He could only get 9:th on the grid, just a fraction quicker than Reine Wisell.

Ronnie had an unlucky start and he got hit by some cars and spunn. After the first lap only Hill was behind him. But on the following 10 laps Ronnie took 10 places. And after five more he passed Reine who had problems with his gears. Ronnie discovered that he was wet of petrol!!! One of the tanks was leaking after the start-chrash and Ronnie pulled into the pits and retired.

Grand Prix de Monaco 14:th of May 1972

Fittipaldi on pole before Ickx. Fastest Lap: Beltoise 1.40.0 Leaders: Beltoise 1-80.

Jean-Pierre Beltoise wins his only career victory and the last ever victory for BRM, Ickx Ferrari second and Fittipaldi Lotus third.

Practice was bad for Ronnie and he ended up 15:th on the grid 2.7 sec. off pole. Reine Wisell stod next to him.

The race was wet, and Beltoise did his best race of his life, but he had to go more then half an hour longer than usual. He put a lap on every one but Ickx. Ronnie ended up 11:th lapped 4 times. He even had to stop once ´cos the steering-wheel was loose!?!

Fittipaldi Lotus wins, Cevert Tyrell second and Hulme McLaren third.

Ronnie was struggling with his bad March 712X and started from 14:th position. His teammate Lauda started last...

In the race Ronnie still struggled a lot and could only get a 9:th place 2 laps down...

Grand Prix de France 2:th of July 1972, Clermont-Ferrand

Amon on pole before Hulme. Fastest Lap: Amon 2.53.9 - lap record. Leaders: Amon 1-19; Stewart 20-38.

Stewart Tyrrell wins, Fittipaldi Lotus second, Amon Matra third and Ronnie March 5:th.

Ronnie came to this race with a F2 car with a F1 engine(!) called March 721G. Ronnie had big problems sorting the new car out and could only manage 9:th spot on the grid. In the race Ronnie held his 9:th place after the start, but he could slowly move up the field. The best position was third, but torsonbar in the rear got loose and Ronnie suffered bad understeer. He could still manage 5:th place after all.

Ickx on pole before Stewart. Fastest Lap: Ickx 7.13.6 Leaders: Ickx 1-14.

Ickx Ferrari wins, Regazzoni Ferrari second and Ronnie Peterson March third.


Grosser Preis von Österreich 13:th of August 1972, Österreichring

Fittipaldi on pole before Regazzoni. Fastest Lap: Hulme 1.38.32 Leaders: Stewart 1-23; Fittipaldi 24-54.

Fittipaldi Lotus wins, Hulme McLaren second, Revson McLaren third and Ronnie March 12:th.


Gran Premio d`Italia 10:th of September 1972, Monza

Ickx on pole before Amon. Fastest Lap: Ickx 1.36.3 Leaders: Ickx 1-13, 17-45; Regazzoni 14-16; Fittipaldi 46-55.

Fittipaldi Lotus wins, Mike Hailwood Surtees second, Hulme McLaren third, Ronnie March 9:th and Reine Wisell Lotus 12:th.


Canadian Grand Prix 24:th of September 1972, Mosport Park

Revson on pole before Hulme and Ronnie. Fastest Lap: Stewart 1.15.7 Leaders: Ronnie 1-3; Stewart 4-80.

Stewart Tyrrell wins, Revson McLaren second, Hulme McLaren third and Ronnie March DSQ.


United States Grand Prix 8:th of October 1972, Watkins Glen

Stewart on pole before Revson and Hulme. Fastest Lap: Stewart 1.41.644 Leaders: Stewart 1-59.

Stewart Tyrrell wins, Cevert Tyrrell second, Hulme McLaren third, Ronnie Peterson March 4:th and Reine Wisell Lotus 10:th.
