F1i.com believes that Renault will announce Christian Cortzen as Flavio Briatore's successor on Tuesday

F1i.com's sources suggest that Renault will announce on Tuesday that Renault Sport managing director Christian Cortzen will replace Flavio Briatore at the helm of Benetton, which is set to be renamed Renault as the French marques returns as a full works effort in 2002.

Our sources suggest that Briatore will join Prost in some form or another, although he could be heading to Asiatech to take control of the company that bought Peugeot's Formula 1 technology. Briatore was involved in a similar project in the 1990s with Supertec, which took Renault's technology when the manufacturer withdrew from Grand Prix racing.

Cortzen is expected to succeed Briatore, but other moves may be involved in the deal. Mike Gascoyne was seen in deep conversation with Paul Stoddart, who is on the lookout for a technical director after Gustav Brunner flew the coop for Toyota. Renault and Gascoyne are not thought to enjoy the best relationship in the paddock, with accusations about the car's performance so far concentrating on just how much is down to the car and how much is due to the radical 111-degree engine.

Jenson Button has also been linked with Prost recently, although his manager David Robertson firmly denied this when questioned by F1i.com.
