A belated Happy New Year to you all. I had a good Christmas break and went with my family to the Pyrenees in the North of Spain for 10 days.

While I was there I did a lot of cross country ski-ing. I really enjoy it and it is good for fitness. It was quite sunny, but there wasn’t too much snow.

Since Christmas I have not done a great deal of testing, but I was out in Spain testing the MP4-19B when the MP4-20 ran for the first time. I was mainly concentrating on tyre testing, it is interesting doing tyre testing with the MP4-19B as the car is reliable however we are not doing set up work on the 19B any more, as we are of course not using the car in this year’s World Championship.

In Valencia last week I completed my first few laps with the MP4-20. I was quite happy with the car with regards to my seat and the seating position. It is very important that a driver is happy in his new office!

So far I think that the team has worked really hard and has prepared well for 2005. We have learned a lot from the 19B car and Mercedes-Benz have been working hard on the engine and we have a very good team of designers and engineers back at Woking which should give us a competitive package. First impressions are that the team has done a good job.

This week we are testing in Jerez with two MP4-20s. The test will be focusing on reliability because it is a brand new car. This, together with the fact that this year we have to complete two races with the same engine, and more than 330 kms with one set of tyres, means we have to, during testing, focus much more on reliability this season. We have just a few weeks before Australia so it is important that we test early on to identify out any weak points in the car and fix them before the grands prix start. It will be very interesting to see from the first few races which team is out in front, as it is not possible to judge how competitive everyone is during testing.

I am now looking forward to the first race in Australia, not long to go!
