Dada su situación puede ser una buena vía de escape para seguir en el mundillo. Tampoco es mala salida para otros pilotos. Estoy pensando en Dani Clos por ejemplo.

ABT Sportsline unveils Formula E driver line-up with Lucas di Grassi & Daniel Abt

ABT Sportsline will contest the first season of the new FIA Formula E Championship with former Formula One racer and Audi factory driver Lucas di Grassi and German youngster Daniel Abt. The German outfit is the first of the ten teams in the field to have presented its driver line-up. The inaugural event of the new fully-electric race series will take place in Beijing, China, on 13 September 2014.

In Daniel and Lucas weve signed our absolutely ideal pairing, says team owner Hans-Jürgen Abt. My thanks go to Audi who released Lucas for the Formula E commitment. Hes been involved in the development of the series right from the beginning and is one of the most sought-after names on the scene were proud that hes opted for us.

The 29-year-old Brazilian has previously competed in Formula One, various Formula series and endurance races. In 2014 di Grassi is again part of the Audi squad, running in the FIA World Endurance Championship including Le Mans. Im delighted that Audi is giving me the opportunity to drive in sports car racing as well as in Formula E, says di Grassi. Ive been watching ABT Sportsline on track for a long time a very professional and cool outfit. Its great that it worked out. Weve got ambitious plans. His first Formula E test with ABT is scheduled for June.

The second seat for the only German Formula E team goes to Daniel Abt. The 21-year-old is starting his second GP2 season in 2014 after having previously clinched the runner-ups spot in the GP3 Championship. As the son of team owner and CEO Hans-Jürgen Abt he was one of the first applicants. I was really thrilled with the ideas of Formula E from the very beginning and obviously even more about ABT Sportsline competing with a team of their own, says Daniel Abt. That Im part of the line-up in the inaugural season is both an honour and a huge challenge.

Formula E is a new FIA racing championship featuring fully-electric single-seater race cars. The series will compete in the heart of 10 of the world's leading cities including Germanys capital Berlin with 10 teams, each with two drivers, going head-to-head to create a unique and exciting racing series designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans. The only German race will take place in Berlin on 30 May 2015.

Although the inaugural event in Beijing (China) will not be held until 13 September preparations are already in full swing. In May the ten international teams are scheduled to move into their new state-of-the-art headquarters in Donington Park, UK, where the Spark-Renault SRT_01E Formula E cars will be prepared for initial track tests.

All our plans for Formula E are perfectly on track, says Thomas Biermaier, who, as sports director, is responsible for all motorsport activities at ABT. The two drivers wed been wishing to sign are on board and our discussions with partners, sponsors, engineers and mechanics are making very good progress as well.

Fans and journalists can experience the Formula E race car live in advance on ABT Sportslines stand at the Geneva Motor Show, 6 to 16 March.

Interview: Steven Lu, China Racing

China Racing is no stranger to the motorsport scene, beginning 10 years ago in A1GP and going on to compete in the Superleague Formula and FIA GT1. Last year they became the second team to sign up to the FIA Formula E Championship and, as Team Principal Steve Lu explains, they are looking forward to getting started.

What originally attracted you to the series?
Team China Racing has been competing in various international racing since 2004 and we are always looking for new opportunities. Formula E is going to be a top level electric series and we are delighted to be able to take part. We are confident that we will be able to perform well given all the teams are starting on a level playing field.

From a teams perspective, what are going to be some of the biggest challenges for the first season and how do you rate your title chances?
Every team is starting from scratch and has a lot to learn in order to adapt quickly. As the second team to enter the championship, we hope we will have a slight advantage over the teams that joined later. Our selection of drivers for this year will be crucial and I expect our competitors to have excellent line-ups. I think the street race format should suit us and give us the chance to finish on the podium in some races.

What has been the reaction to Formula E in China? Do you think the Beijing race will be very popular?
Since the launch of our Formula E team there has been a lot of noise about the series in China. There are many questions surrounding the sound of the car, the battery unit and Chinese driver involvement. All the curiosity has generated an enormous response towards Formula E in China. Beijing is the best city to host any sports event with a population of over 20 million, especially when you have a home team to cheer for! You will find many spectators and fans are actually on the waiting list to buy an electric car for their families. This is the perfect time to see for themselves the reliability of electric vehicles. We need this change to reduce the pollution in the city.

Would you like to see more teams from China competing?

It would be nice to have other teams originating from China but not too many as I prefer a diverse championship.

Does China Racing have plans to manufacturer its own electric car in the future and if so, what can you tell us about it?
We will need backing from Chinese manufacturers to make our own cars in Formula E. Our plan is to first learn from the current Spark-Renault SRT_01E cars and hopefully reach an agreement moving forward with a local manufacturer.

Any news on potential drivers? Will they be Chinese?
We have many options and are in talks with drivers from various countries. Our intention is to field a Chinese driver but we are also looking towards reserve roles to help home-grown talent through the learning process.

Audi Sport ABT reveal new car at Geneva Motor Show

The Audi Sport ABT team today (6, March) unveiled their new team livery at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland.

Revealed on stage, the only German outfit pulled the covers off the fully electric Spark-Renault SRT_01E car to display their red and black livery. The new car will make its competitive debut at the opening round of the FIA Formula E Championship in Beijing on 13th September 2014.

As well as the new colour scheme, the presentation confirmed ABTs new partnership with German electronics company Telefunken.

Team Principal Hans-Jürgen Abt said: We are delighted to have the first global partner on board with Telefunken. The company stands for innovation in the entertainment and electronics industry, and therefore fits perfectly with Formula E.

ABT Sportsline is one of 10 teams to have signed up to the new electric race series. The team based in Kempton, Germany, have a prestigious background in motorsport with five DTM titles to their name. They are one of the most successful German race teams with other notable victories in GT and endurance championships.

The team will compete in association with Audi, continuing their commitment as a factory team in German touring cars. The new venture marks a return to the teams early single-seater outings in the 1990s with early success in Formel ADAC and Formula 3.

Discussing the new livery Thomas Biermaier, Sports Director of ABT Sportsline, said: The show car in Geneva represents an intermediate colour scheme, which is orientated to our initial idea. Red and black are our company colours but the look will also depend on our other partners.

ABT have recently announced their driver line-up for the coming season. Former F1 driver Lucas di Grassi will pair up with GP2 youngster Daniel Abt.

Commenting on the new project Jürgen-Abt said: "This is an entirely new chapter in our companys 60-year history. For us, this is a fascinating new challenge and we now know that electrical drives may be free of emissions but certainly not free of emotions.

Buenos Aires Mayor signs three-year Formula E race deal

Mayor Mauricio Macri, today (7 March) officially welcomed the FIA Formula E Championship to Buenos Aires as one of 10 global cities to host the new fully-electric racing series.

Together with the CEO of Formula E Alejandro Agag, the Mayor signed an agreement which will see the Argentinean capital host Formula E races for the next three years, beginning with the citys first electric Grand Prix on 10th January 2015.

Buenos Aires joins a list of nine other cities to be announced for the inaugural season and one of three races taking place in South America. Formula E is a new FIA Championship using electric single-seater cars capable of speeds in excess of 225km/h. Beginning this September, the series will compete in the heart of 10 of the world's leading cities with 10 teams, each with two drivers, going head-to-head to create a unique and exciting racing series designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans.

Speaking on the announcement Mayor Mauricio Macri said: For Buenos Aires to be selected to host a Formula E race alongside worldwide cities such as Beijing, London and Los Angeles demonstrates the commitment of the city to embracing new technologies, clean mobility and respect for the environment. The electric vehicle will play a significant role in reducing future pollution in cities across the globe, making them better places to live, and Buenos Aires is pleased to be at the forefront of this and to be supporting a pioneering initiative such as the FIA Formula E Championship.

Circuit layouts for the Buenos Aires Formula E Grand Prix are currently being finalised with the confirmed route expected to be unveiled in mid-May, although it will remain subject to FIA track homologation. As with all Formula E events, the race will take place in one day, incorporating the city as a backdrop and providing a great spectacle for the local people.

Alejandro Agag said: It gives me huge satisfaction to be signing this agreement today which will bring Formula E to the people of Buenos Aires for at least the next three years, putting it on the world stage for electric motorsport competition. Argentina is a country of great automotive tradition as well as a unique setting to host a Formula E Grand Prix. Mayor Mauricio Macri and the city authorities have shown tremendous commitment to not only Formula E but to promoting cleaner, greener energy which I have no doubt will help transform the city into one of the world leaders in sustainability.

Ex-F1 drivers Trulli and Heidfeld join Formula E drivers' club
Jarno Trulli has hinted at a motorsport comeback after signing up for the Formula E drivers' club initiative, along with fellow ex-Formula 1 racer Nick Heidfeld.

Trulli has not raced at all since parting company with Caterham on the eve of the 2012 F1 season.

The 2004 Monaco Grand Prix winner is one of four new additions to FE's list of driver candidates.

Heidfeld, Sam Bird and Jerome d'Ambrosio complete the latest quartet announced by the FIA's new all-electric series on Wednesday.

"This series has huge potential and I'm excited to see the technological progress of electric vehicles and their place in the future of motorsport," said 39-year-old Italian Trulli, who contested 252 grands prix with Minardi, Prost, Jordan, Renault, Toyota and Lotus/Caterham between 1997 and 2011.

Heidfeld has driven for Rebellion in the World Endurance Championship since his F1 career ended in mid-2012, while Bird narrowly missed out on the 2013 GP2 title but only has PC class outings with Starworks in the United SportsCar Championship confirmed for 2014 at present.

D'Ambrosio spent a season in F1 with Virgin in 2011, and is also a former test and reserve driver for the Lotus F1 team.

The FE drivers' club is a means for racers to express their interest in competing in the series, which commences in September this year, and to get testing opportunities in its Spark-Renault car.

Trulli is the first GP winner to announce an FE interest, and one of 16 ex-F1 racers on the now 40-strong drivers' club list.

Lucas di Grassi and Daniel Abt are the only drivers to secure firm FE deals so far, both with the Audi-backed Abt team.

Jarno Trulli applauds new Formula E car following test drive

Grand Prix winner Jarno Trulli has applauded the fully- electric Formula E car the Spark-Renault SRT_01E following a recent test drive at the La Ferté Gaucher circuit near Choisy-le-Roi, France.

The 39-year-old Italian, who last week signed up to the Championships Drivers Club, spent a whole day at the wheel of the now fully-tested single-seater using the final race-going 200kw (270bhp) battery.

Trulli is one of the most experienced drivers in the history of F1, competing in 256 Grand Prix and lying third on the all-time entry list, behind Rubens Barrichello, Michael Schumacher and joint with Riccardo Patrese. He was renowned for his qualifying pace and during his 15-year F1 career has driven for Minardi, Prost, Jordan, Renault where he secured a memorable win on the streets of Monte Carlo Toyota and Lotus (now Caterham).

Trulli said: From inside the cockpit it feels like driving a proper Formula One car, the sound is different but you still hear the sound of the electrical engine and gearbox, so in terms of feeling its perfect for a racing driver. Maybe from the outside it seems different but inside you dont notice it. So far I have enjoyed it because its a nice car to drive.

As a first day I expected something different and it certainly is, but having a feeling of a racing car was the most important thing. I have been racing for 30 years, 15 in Formula One, so I have seen more or less everything so I anticipated finding something unlike anything else but it gave me the same feeling of the old days.

The SRT_01E has been designed and built by Spark Racing Technology together with a consortium of the leading manufacturers in motorsport, and will compete in the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship - the worlds first global electric race series beginning in September. The chassis has been constructed by Dallara, with McLaren Electronics Systems providing the electric motor, gearbox and electronics, Williams Advanced Engineering the batteries, Renault the overall systems integration and Michelin the bespoke 18 treaded tyres.

Speaking on the forthcoming Formula E Championship, Trulli added: There is a lot of potential in this series and its going to be fun because you are going to be driving in street circuits bringing the cities into the fans house.

To date, the SRT_01E has completed more than 1,500km of trouble-free testing and will shortly go into production with the first cars delivered to teams at the Championships new Donington Park headquarters in mid-May.

Formula E partners with ONE DROP

Organisers of the FIA Formula E Championship have announced a joint partnership with ONE DROP, showing their support for the non-profit organisation which strives to ensure that water is accessible to all, today and forever.

Beginning this September in Beijing, Formula E is the FIAs global motorsport championship featuring fully-electric open-wheel cars racing in 10 of the worlds leading cities including Los Angeles, London and Buenos Aires. The debut of Formula E ushers in an innovative age where a race on the world stage has become the platform to showcase and promote sustainable technology for the environment. Together Formula E and ONE DROP will be part of a global movement to engage people worldwide.

The announcement was made during ONE DROPs One Night for ONE DROP fundraiser held at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, USA, to celebrate World Water Day and featured an original one-off performance by artists from the eight resident Cirque du Soleil productions. The evening also gave guests the chance to view the emission free Formula E race car the Spark-Renault SRT_01E capable of speeds in excess of 150mph and accelerating from 0-62mph in three seconds.

ONE DROP was created in 2007 by Cirque du Soleil Founder Guy Laliberté and aims to significantly and sustainably improve peoples health and standard of living, as well as their ability to care for themselves and their families. The organisation is most active in Central America, West Africa and India and builds strategic partnerships in order to increase the sustainability, scale and scope of its programming to resolve the global water crisis.

Both Formula E and ONE DROP are game changers in their respective fields, said Catherine B. Bachand, CEO of ONE DROP. Formula Es commitment to sustainability from the outset and ONE DROPs dedication to sustainable water access make us strongly aligned. We are absolutely thrilled to be embarking on this journey with Formula E and have huge confidence that together we can drive action on the global water crisis.

Enrique Bañuelos, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Formula E, said: We are great advocates of ONE DROP and their commitment to sustainability, which lies at the heart of the FIA Formula E Championship. Clean water and clean air are the two key elements to life. ONE DROPs dedication to sustainable water access, combined with Formula Es drive to reduce environmental impact go hand-in-hand. Were looking forward to working together to help make a real difference in peoples lives around the world.

Super Aguri's Mark Preston: Sato is on our shortlist

Super Aguri is a name recognised by motorsport fans around the world, especially with a certain Japanese driver behind the wheel. The Tokyo-based outfit have a wealth of experience having previously competed in Formula One. But will there be a sense of déjà vu? Team Principal Mark Preston reveals that discussions are ongoing with Takuma Sato to race in Formula E this season...

Having worked at the highest level of motorsport in the past, what originally attracted you to Formula E?
Personally, I view it as the future of motorsport and it also represents a new challenge for myself to go racing again. The ability to work with new technologies and develop it to a point where it can have a significant impact on the automotive industry is something quite exciting and I really wanted to be a part of that.

From your perspective what are going to be some of the biggest challenges in the first season and how do you rate your chances?
One of the main challenges early on will be mastering the setup of the car to suit our drivers and managing its energy capabilities effectively throughout a race. With each team racing on level terms in the first season it really puts an emphasis on the talent of your drivers. I think our chances will hinge largely on how well we train them to use the new technology and how they perform over the 10 races.

What has been the reaction to Formula E in Japan? Do you think a race at a street venue in Japan would be popular?
We all know how passionate race fans are in Japan and weve seen already on social media that the reception of Super Aguri and Formula E has been overwhelmingly positive. I have no doubt that a street race in Japan would be an amazing event, in both a sporting and cultural sense, and I hope in the near future that our fans and team have a race on home soil.

I know you havent yet got your hands on the Spark-Renault SRT-01E but what do you think of the car?
From what weve seen so far in terms of testing performance Ive been quite impressed. The car looks to be hitting all of its performance targets and I think all those who have been involved in its development and production have done a tremendous job in putting it together.

Takuma Sato has added his name to the Formula E Drivers Club, may we see him competing in some capacity?
Takuma and Super Aguri had a great relationship during our stint in Formula One and he is a great ambassador for Japanese motorsport. I can confirm we are in discussions with Takuma and his representatives about the possibility of him joining us in Formula E. Although as Ive said before there are other factors to navigate such as budgets and Takumas current IndyCar commitments.

Finally, do you have any news on other potential drivers? Will they be Japanese?
At the moment we are busy working behind the scenes to secure our drivers. Weve had an influx of interest from all over the world and securing a Japanese driver is high on our list.

Jarno Trulli Q&A: The feeling is perfect for a racing driver

Ex-Formula One driver Jarno Trulli recently sampled the Formula E car with the full race-capacity battery. As a veteran of 256 Grand Prix, Trulli has experience in abundance but this was a unique opportunity. We caught up with him to get his thoughts

Youve had the chance to drive this car, what are your thoughts and first impressions? Particularly with the acceleration and power but also how it sounds from inside the cockpit?
From inside the cockpit it feels like driving a normal racing car, the sound is different but you still hear the sound of the electrical engine and gearbox so in terms of feeling its perfect for a racing driver. Maybe from the outside it seems different but inside you dont notice it. So far I have enjoyed it because its nice to drive the car. I havent done many laps in order to set up the car but there is plenty of room to improve it.

Formula E starts in September what are your thoughts about the championship?
Its an interesting series to be honest I have discovered right now and its just like driving a proper Formula One car Id say as you are sitting in a cockpit. Obviously the sound is different but in my opinion there is a lot of potential in this series and its going to be fun because you are going to be driving in street circuits bringing the cities into the fans house.

You have added your name to the Formula E Drivers Club, what does it mean to you and could we see you racing in the future?
Too early to say but I have definitely enjoyed it. As a first day I expected something different and it certainly is, but having a feeling of a racing car was the most important thing. I have been racing for 30 years, 15 in Formula One, so I have seen more or less everything so I anticipated to find something unlike anything else but it gave me the same feeling of the old days.

How do you think racing fans will respond to Formula E?

I think people will anticipate a different series and that means a new sound, a nice sound. In general they expect good racing so they want overtaking and interesting action on track. Also having the event in a single day is good for everyone. You dont want to waste your time and have a long weekend when you can concentrate everything to give a big spectacle. Lets see how it goes but there is a lot of potential.

Possibly the future of motorsport?

Well see, its too early to say. Today was a nice first day and I have relished being back in a single-seater car. I hope I can do it again in the future.
