"Niki Lauda's time as the team principal of Jaguar Racing could be over before the first day of winter testing comes to an end this evening.


Ford, the owner of Jaguar, has called a media conference to take place in London today, the purpose of which is believed to be the announcement of Lauda's departure.

The Austrian joined the Big Cat in August 2001 replacing Bobby Rahal, but despite a new boss the team's fortunes were not turned around. Jaguar continued to under-perform, and finished the 2002 season in seventh place.

It now appears that the former world champion is to share the same fate as his predecessor, meaning Jaguar will most probably be announcing their fifth team boss in four years.

This news comes hot on the heels of Jaguar's announcement that they are to lay of 30 to 60 members of their F1 team as a result of the global economic situation.

It looks like it will be "all change" within the team in time for the 2003 season, as Jaguar also have a completely new driver line-up for next season. Mark Webber and Antonio Pizzonia have stepped in to replace Eddie Irvine and Pedro de la Rosa, after both drivers were ditched following the season-ending Japanese Grand Prix.

While today's press conference takes place Webber and Pizzonia will be starting their winter test programme at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya."
